it just kinda eliminates play action really, but we didn't have that last year anyways.

meh...auburn used play action a lot last year.

doesn't really effect a whole lot. just makes it easier for the QB to see the field.

btw...those QBs he mentioned all took more than 50% of their snaps from the shotgun. peyton took 76% of them from it.

thats why I said kinda. you can still fake the handoff, but it isn't the same as if coming from under center.

it is better for the RB for the QB to be under center, but it isn't a huge deal. the run game would still be effective. if you put newton where he would stand in the pistol you'd have the benefits of both, though.

I am hopeful that the new coaching regime will install an offense that can utilize Cam's abilities to the fullest. Whether that be behind the center, or, hopefully, from the shotgun where he is much more comfortable. If they don't handle Cam's transition to a pro QB right, it very well get ugly around here. If, on the other hand, they may click with Cam and use his skills to ridiculous results. I

I don't know which scenario will unfold, but this I do know; Cam Newton may or may not be a HOFer, but the excitement level for Panther games just shot to the moon.

Ok, after reading the 1st page of this topic, let me get this straight -- We have the PROVEN NFL record-setting RB tandem of DW and Stewart (2 years agoi when everyone was healthy, which our OL are supposed to be once we get started), and we are going to run a spread offense with 3 or 4 wideouts so we can make up for our new QB's POTENTIAL inability to run the offense from under center, to rush this inexperienced (NFL experience) unproven rookie onto the field to play the NFL's hardest schedule in a season where potentially we may not have much training, only 1 pre-season game before the start of the season?

Yup, makes perfect sense to me....

Once the Labor dispute is over and FA opens up, why don't we just go ahead and trade DW and Stewart while we are dealing Snitty. we have Mike Goodson, who did well last year, we could probably get Reggie Bush (a receiving threat as RB) real cheap now, and we could pick up a couple more WRs just in case.... We could get a couple more draft picks for next year to boot. :rolleyes:

I am assuming the discussion regarding using the shotgun was just occassionally to get Newton on the field / get him some experience...right?! :(

No one is suggesting we run a spread offense to accomodate Cam alone. But not running 90% of plays out of the I formation should be great. And hanging on to the past when our offense was serviceable is cute. That double trouble season may as well have been a decade ago. If 34 is gone, Stewart's carries need to be reduced by 40% or he'll get hurt IMO. If he stays then obviously snapping from under center becomes more important.
