Is Everette Brown Officially a Bust?

why does everybody allways seem to forget that first was traded for a 2nd and a 4th we also good Goodson for that pick, not just E Brown

Cause the majority of people see's a trade up. In this case, it was a future first round pick. Cause of that, they have godly expectations for a player. E. Brown is no longer a second round pick in their eyes. He should have come out playing like peppers. That is their mindset, misguided as it is.

Brown is a high motor guy. He constantly is getting into the backfieeld. He also plays containment better than anybody gives him credit for. He doesn't use his leverage to his advantage, that is coachable.

I also agree with the people mentioning our DT position being weak, affecting Brown. With improved play at defensive tackle, browns motor and speed will be more effective.

True for all of 'em, brother.

But clogging up the lanes a little better will force more action outside.

Everette seemed to need more upper body strength for chopping, pushing, and disengaging the longer and bigger arms of a defensive guard. He could use some work on swiping legs and making shoestring tackles too. He stands upright oo much. Which is no problem for an OLB.

I think he might be playing for the wrong team/position, honestly. We didn't draft but one LB this year, I believe. Not going to => 3/4.

I like Brown. He is a solid situational guy. Sure, we overreached for him, but that is Hurney's fault not his. I think him and Norwood are going to play a key role in Rivera's defense as we will need situational pass rushers and hybrid defenders.

He really needs to be placed a bit further outside the T than where he was last year to take advantage of his speed. He will never be a bull rusher and there is no reason to try to make him be like Fox did.

Like I said, he needs to use better leverage. There is nothing wrong with his size, or strength for that matter. Better leverage, and work on his hands.

Hard to call him a reach in the second round.

Don't come back arguing about the fact we traded up for him. The fact we got two players, makes it a moot point.

Brown isn't a bust....

the people who decided to pick him expecting him to be a dominant DE based on his quickness alone and their decision to draft him for that reason is/was a bust...

You have to remember who our former DC is.

Brown was drafted with the idea that he'd be our version of Dwight Freeney.

I'm still a year away from saying "bust" but it'd be hard to argue that he wasn't worth giving up a first round pick for (even with the extras thrown in).

Pretty much my take.

If you look at his college highlight reels, you'll see as many near misses as sacks. I was hoping that would change in the NFL. Hasn't yet. Hopeful for this year.

EB was a bad move in that he was not the type of player Fox wanted on his dline. Fox is old school and his strategy was always put the four biggest dudes there and let them go. The Tampa Two never fit how fox ran his front line. I think it made our LB's and secondary better though. But EB is not a bust. Dline players are notorious for taking time to develop. From the beginning Brown was considered a project.

Also his scheme versatility could interest Rivera. Look for him to be used much differently than Fox did.

I only hope for Cam's sake your more patient with him. Two seasons and considered a BUST could happen to Cam also. Think about Vince Young and his recent fall from grace.

No one can prove it was a win now mentality.

E. Brown was rated highly on their board. They traded a future first rounder for a couple of picks. The value was there, regardless who they picked up with the picks.

Regardless of how high they had him rated, not every player develops quickly. Rucker took several years to develop. Johnson took time to develop.

Brown was really coming along late in the season, showing improvement. He has the talent. He is far from a bust.

Anybody who thought he was going to come in and be a starter was fooling themselves.

Out of that trade, we also got goodson, which has turned out to be a great value.

You can dismiss that all you want, just like I'm going to dismiss anybody claiming brown was a first round pick, and a bust, as fans who are talking out of their ass.
