Is Everette Brown Officially a Bust?

It really depends on what your definition of a bust is. I don't ever see Brown as a starting, three down DE on a 4-3 base defense. That doesn't mean he can't be a major contributor to the team and serve a specific role. Rivera, compared to Fox, has been known as a coach that gets a lot out of players and uses players in ways that highlights their strengthes and hinds their weaknesses. That doesn't mean Rivera can turn him into Julius Peppers or Dewight Freeny. Or even into that starting, 3 down DE. If Brown is a rotational DE that gets 3 sacks a year and great backup, I wouldn't see that as a bust.

EB seemed to be settling in last year, particularly in the second half of the season. The one thing EB does well and no one seems to realize is that he is actually pretty good at chasing down and tackling. So while we all like to focus largely on sacks for DEs, EB does chase down the man with the ball.

One of EBs problems is that he was drafted too high and the currency traded for his draft rights was too high. So our expectations of EB are artificially inflated. Kindof like AE, but EB did at least produce and he wasn't that much of a reach at that point in the 2nd round.

Wrong. CJ was a significant contributor in just his second season.

Wrong. I said impressive play, not a significant contributions. CJ's 2008 year, while very helpful, did not prove him to be starter material just yet in my eyes, and therefore isn't impressive. However 2009 clearly shows he needs to be invested in. Brown had a poo second season because of his team and coaching and everything Vagrant has already outlined. The Panther's need a star DT, and in 2008 I wouldn't tell you CJ would fit the bill. Can't say brown really will either in the same sense this year.

He had a down 2009 compared to 2008. The pectoral injury was a large part of that.

I **felt** like CJ was a player in his 2nd year.

ugh whatever the story may be the point is it takes time and according to the timeline it should be around this year that should tell us a lot about Brown. A lot of reasons not to count him out just yet. If Rivera uses and coaches Brown properly it could help slightly.

Just seemed like around here Clausen, Edwards, Brown and Cam are leaning towards busts, no one gives anyone time or expects rookie mistakes. Above all that people don't consider the kind of season specifically, the panthers had last year in all aspects. Those guys were some high draft picks so if there was just absolutely nothing there I'd think Hurney would be in trouble.

but poeple don't want to hear, 'let's just wait and see'. They all want to make a judgment and talk about an opinion now.
