So is Everette Brown officially a bust? I say not just yet I say the switch could still flip for what was our 2010 First Round pick which as you all know is what we traded to get him in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft. I say we have to give this guy one more year in a new scheme with a great defensive mind like Rivera I am curious to see what this guy can do. I just hope Rivera finds some way to get this guy to the QB! So whats the huddle's thought?

We aren't switching to a 3-4

If we didn't take him and lose our first, we would have taken Jimmy with that spot anyway. We would have owed Clausen a lot more than we do now with the slotted salary, which may have made the FO more hesitant to pick Cam and have so much money tied up into QBs. So if you are a Cam fan, you should be saying God bless Everette Brown. :D

while Brown hasn't been even been good really, there was a stretch last year where it looked like he was starting to "get it". I think he can improve and though he may never live up to being a first rounder he could very well show improvement this year.

Last year for him was better than Jarrett ever had as far as a year went, so I wouldn't quite call him the Jarrett of DEs. Also, Jarrett couldn't swim.

Yet what if Cam sucks and Luck is on the table next year?

Well, if Everette improves on his stats, perhaps he will be trading bait and we can get some value out of him. Right now I think Greg Hardy is going to start opposite Johnson.

I hope Cam succeeds, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if we are picking number one again and we select Luck. (Seeing as how we aren't going to win the division this up coming season. Unless our runners have outstanding games.)

The funny, or sad, thing about this is that most everybody with a brain KNEW that Brown was going to take 2-3 years to develop into his potential. It was pretty well known that he left school a year earlier than he should have. He's raw, undersized, and was underutilized in our defense last season. He is the kind of player that needed work on his hands and his rip moves and was a project from a technique standpoint. All we did for him last year was told him to put his hand in the dirt and beat tackles 1 on 1 when in reality, it probably would have been a better idea to try to get him moving on some stunts and dropping back to rush from new angles.

With the lack of creativity of our defensive scheme last year, only guys that were good edge rushers like Johnson were really going to thrive. With the ZERO help we got from our DT last season, our ends were on an island. Hopefully that will be corrected this year.

If not, I would certainly be in favor of dropping Brown back into a position where he could rush the QB from the second level and split snaps there with Eric Norwood until somebody really claimed that role.

Even still, I think the time he is being given to work on his frame will be put to good use. Calling him a bust is woefully premature. He didn't have the skill set for immediate contribution.
