First time I ever used a coupon at a restaurant

Damn yall are heartless im a server at applebees in summerville sc, im a damn good server as well, i can honestly say that the servers are at fault sometimes, ive 4got to ring orders in like 3 times but ive been serving for only a month and a half now, never done it b4, but boo mustve served b4 because on busy nights wit expos servers arent allowed to tlk to the cooks and cant touch their food until the expos take it out the window, even if your order is clearly ready.

and the drinks situation, the bartenders prepare the drinks for the servers they like most first, so if i ring a drink in and it isnt prepared in 5 minutes then a more like server rings a drink in after i been waiting for mine theirs will be prepared first, thus leading to a longer wait time for my guest...which kills any chance of a good tip 4 me,,,getting paid 2.13 an hour sucks and the only way to make $ is through tips, which is affected by incompetent druggie cooks and expos mainly.

before being accused of bashing cooks i went to culinary school and been a cook myself for a restaurant so i know what the back of house is all about, but chain restaurants like chili's, applebee's, ruby tuesday's etc. have the absolut worst set of cooks and slow wait times for food i've ever experienced its unreal...

It can be that your server put the order in wrong as well. It can be your server can FORGET to put an order entirely. It can be that your server BROUGHT out the obviously wrong food. It can be that your server dropped your food.

There are LOTS of reasons why. My husband and I have experienced all of these except for the dropped food. We have had servers ADMIT forgetting to put in orders and as well as putting in orders wrong.

This is the one that you are mostly wrong on for the most part. While sometimes the bartender is playing around, most of the time it's your server's fault honestly.

I have had servers admitted forgetting to put in drink orders. I have had servers forget to GET drink orders from the bar. I have had once where they were out of the Presidente' Shakers at Chili's, the bartender made the margarita in a different glass, my waitress didn't go ask about it in 8 minutes or so where it was to the bartender. She asked if I had gotten it by around 15 minutes or so. I had told her I didn't receive it yet. Altogether I waited literally 30 minutes to get a margarita. It was my server's fault since she didn't go check on WHERE the heck it was.

Another time, I had a server that put in the order wrong, she put in a mudslide that was a frozen one, I ordered a while russian which is normally made on the rocks.

Another time, a waitress forgot to put a drink order in about 20 minutes.

Another time, I had a server forget my margarita from the bar at Applebee's, which he just had gone to grab at after 25 minutes LITERALLY of waiting for it.

Another time I had a waiter at a FINE DINING restaurant that forgot my margarita from the bar, that when I asked about it, it was just sitting there and he grabbed it to bring to me.

We had another time where I ordered a white russian with kahlua and Absolut vodka. Well, this waitress must not have ever drank this or seen this drink before, she was soooo STUPID, she brought out a CLEAR glass with just kahlua and vodka, meaning that's a BLACK RUSSIAN, the idiot. Servers need to know and LISTEN to what the customer ordered. Just because I didn't say cream or milk doesn't mean that I wanted a black russian. I have NEVER had to say that before when I ordered, because that's what makes a white russian, white, hence the word "white." That point was, she SERVED it OBVIOUSLY wrong and possibly even gave the order in wrong as well since the bartender should have known what a white russian was.

When you ask for salt on your margarita, then your server brings it out without salt, that's your server's fault 100%. They aren't blind. That's a delay right there.

See, most of the time the bar drinks are YOUR SERVER'S FAULT. So you see you have NO CLUE OF WHAT you are talking about. Sure, sometimes the bartenders play around or chit-chat, but some bartenders can still chit-chat and make drinks even. I would say most bartenders don't have time if they have drinks to make to play around if it's busy or they would lose their job.

Why didn't you include that the server can delay putting in a drink order, YET, you say for a food order, huh? It's the same thing. Delaying putting in orders regardless of where it goes to is your server's fault.

I have had bartenders delay making drinks too at bars for example, I will admit, but I find I have had most of my problems with the servers honestly.

You don't eat out much or go out drinking at bars much, do you?

yes, because no experience and reading blogs about serving obviously means you know what you are talking about. Over 7 years in the business has nothing to do with it.

you are just the kind of person I would freaking hate to wait on.

Why by your memory? Didn't you WRITE IT DOWN? You should have been comparing that written order to the plates of food to ensure ALL components that you don't have to touch the food to notice the mistakes were correct.

Normally, the expo doesn't *BRING* it to the table, so if they didn't deliver the food, they can't possibly be at fault for anything obvious that you don't have to touch the food to notice the mistake or mistakes.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLZZZ at the first comment. That shows you have obviously never waited tables and the term "in the weeds" means nothing to you.

Actually, it depends on the restaurant you work in. I have worked in one where we have run our food on our own, one where we have designated food runners, yeah that's a job title, and one where we just have little hispanic men running around with big giant trays taking food everywhere. So yeah, they are delivering the food.

Honestly, MOST mistakes or wait times are your server's fault or another server's fault.

and the drinks situation, the bartenders prepare the drinks for the servers they like most first, so if i ring a drink in and it isnt prepared in 5 minutes then a more like server rings a drink in after i been waiting for mine theirs will be prepared first, thus leading to a longer wait time for my guest...which kills any chance of a good tip 4 me,,,getting paid 2.13 an hour sucks and the only way to make $ is through tips, which is affected by incompetent druggie cooks and expos mainly.

I understand that, but I see a lot of times when servers are double or triple sat, they aren't going to that computer to IMMEDIATELY put that drink order in, they are going to the next table to get their drink order instead of doing a MINI-GREET of saying "I'll be right with you all" as we have had done before from servers that IS acceptable to do a small acknowledgment that the customers aren't completely ignored at the next table, but at the same time if you don't go put the order into the computer, you honestly may be making the customers wait 2-5 minutes longer to get their bar drink or appetizer order if they ordered those when greeted. Remember, it is that table's turn, so they should get their FULL turn by putting in their bar drink orders or appetizers or if they full ordered, their entrée orders. Also, we have fully ordered at the time of greeting, so can the 2nd table or 3rd table and you can't tell them you won't take their food orders, can you?

Your server should be going to put the orders right after getting them unless your server has other requests that came beforehand such as if someone's bar drink is ready I don't expect you to put in my order or if the table before us just asked for some refills, well if the table just asked for refills, you shouldn't have even come to our table to greet us, you should have gotten those refills before fully greeting us.

Get what I am saying?

If they deliver the food, then unless the order was put in wrong, they are at fault for bringing me an obvious error wrong.

So glad you know so much about the service industry. How about you go get a job at Applebee's and Ill come sit in your section tonight, treat you like the way you just spoke of treating your servers and blame everything on you then give you a horrible tip.

I'm sure you would be just as knowledgeable then as you are now.

Springs1, let me drop some knowledge on you.

There is such a thing called Restaurant Karma, believe it or not. You are on the wrong end of it, just like my wife was.

My wife is amazing, but she has never waited tables before, and had a tendency to act like you towards her servers (she has corrected this behavior). I have waited tables before and treat all my servers like gold, even when things go wrong, because I know how tough the job is.

For every time you act like that to a server you earn 10 bad experiences from future servers.

I have experienced this first hand when I take my wife to dinner. Her order is always the last one out, and it is always wrong. My meals are always great.

Even when the server screws up I'm very nice to them, but I do adjust my tip accordingly, if necessary.

Try that approach and eventually you will have better experiences. Just be patient, it's going to take some time for karma to balance itself out based on your past actions.

piggybacking off the chain restaurant thread, how much are you expected to tip wait staff at a buffet style restaurant? No offense to anyone but all they do there is fill the tea glass once or twice. You get your own clean plates and food. I don't feel as if I should tip as much at these places as compared to places I actually get waited on.

    • His o loaded with swift, dj, Keenan and Rome was inconsistent at best. The d was bad. And the game management was atrocious and lost them games.  He was terrible and made the team worse. I wish they kept him
    • That is my point.  I think teams make a huge mistake when they pay their decent to average QBs top QB money because they feel that they have to match the market or lose their investment--There is no way, for example, that Tua or Prescott or Murray should all be making more than Mahomes--I mean, Dak makes $15m per season more than Mahomes. People say, "Well, when its his turn...." But that is not how it should be--so my point was that Bryce can be doing mediocre to good enough in 2 years, but the way it is going, you have to pay him at the starting QB rate--currently $60m.  So even if you think he will continue to improve, at $60 m, he would eliminate any chance for a ring---so my view is, if he is not elite, you cut him.  So you draft QBs now and see what you can make of them.
    • With two 4ths and three 5ths I’m hoping we can kill it on adding depth. Take a gamble with the two 7ths.  First 3 picks id love to address the defense. I expect Tuttle, Robinson, and Jewell to all be on the 2025 roster but not after that. Be a good time to add depth and let them develop a year.
