Cam on Frank and Moose

Recommended Posts

DAMN good interview.

And for those wanting Cam to participate in these mini-training sessions or even organize one, get serious. He's never even signed an NFL contract. Are there *any* other players just drafted that are out there taking part in these mini-training sessions on other teams?

This is like wanting a high school kid that graduated early to join his college team in the spring to organize team workouts without the coaching staff before he's even had his first practice.

:iagree:

Spot on, SMF. I'm not sure why anyone else didn't think of this. Why would a rookie with no contract, with the imposed lockout, do something like this? He hasn't even been named a starter yet. I guess it's not enough that he's got the full playbook to go over before football resumes. C'mon guys!

Good interview. I know George Whitfield has tweeted that he is going to keep working with Cam while the lockout continues. I'm not sure if he can go over the playbook with him although that would be great..they should invite panther players to join them but that would be on the players to rally around the young rook.

I agree. I think learning the playbook should be his #1 priority right now!

I know for a fact Brees is leading one for the Saint @ Tulane, and Romo is leading one for the Cowboys. Flacco is leading one for the Ravens too I saw that on ESPN. Eli Manning is leading team workouts for the Giants. And the Cardinals are holding their own workouts. Those are the only ones for a fact that I know are going on, their may be others.

There's a big difference you're forgetting: Brees, Flacco, Romo, and Mannings are under contract and starting QBs of their respective teams. Cam is a rookie and isn't currently under contract (not to mentioned not named a starter yet). As such, he may be under restrictions due to NFL labor rules from participating in such workouts. On the other hand, Clausen would be better served to organize workouts with the team if he wants to hold onto the starting job and increase his value. JMO

That's great news. I also hope Warren Moon will continue to be a mentor for Cam as he makes the transition to the NFL.

There's no harm in developing a rhythm with your WRs. Just get out there 3-5 days a week and toss it around for 1-2 hours. Learn LaFells preferred spots, write down EVERYTHING Smitty tells you about what he likes, gauge the speed of Gettis. Learn where Shockey wants it placed in his frame, etc.

No need to run plays. And it's even MORE important since the time he'd normally get with these guys...he won't be getting this year (so far).

Agreed that developing chemistry with the rest of the offense, particulary the WRs is a good thing. Especially with the labor sitution as it stands. I'm sure he'll be doing some of what you suggested the deeper he gets into the playbook. Not sure what impact, if any, NFL Labor rules would have since he's not under contract. Just a thought.

how would you respond to some kid coming in and trying to coordinate and lead a workout when he doesn't have any experience with the team?

could be seen as a solid step in the right direction, but i could see it as someone "assuming" a leadership role too early and come across as annoying and cocky, which i'm sure it would be reported as such and those who still aren't on board with him being on board would be wining about it.
