Gus Malzahn on WFNZ this morning...5/5/11

The fake smile thing is some of the dumbest bullpoo ive ever heard.

Also Malzahn was writing books about offensive strategy that NFL coaches were reading when he was coaching highschool in the nineties. The guy is on the norv turner level of offensive genius.

he's got a book and dvd about the "hurry up no huddle" offense that is a consistent big seller. they aren't cheap either. the book is hard to find even used for less than $17 and the DVD goes for around $40-50.

nothing simple about what he does beyond the communication. simple is fast.

they run about as pro an offense as anyone does, and just because it doesn't bear the name" pro style offense" doesn't mean it's not a pro offense. the name "pro style offense" doesn't make it the official pro offense anymore than the west coast offense is the official offense of the west coast. it's just another offensive philosophy that will become obsolete just like others before it and others after it. people put way too much stock in that name.

oh, and remember that chizik said that the only thing that newton didn't do a lot of that is done a lot of in the pros is snapping the ball under center, but even that is something that is being done less and less. the best QBs in the league snapped the ball from the shotgun more than 50% of the time last year.

As was pointed out, he is the equivalent of Cam's mom speaking up for him. Also, he is Auburn's OC, you really expect him to say, "yeah, we run a simple offense".

People talking about Cam's need to transfer from the Auburn style to the NFL, wasn't just McShay or other Draftniks, but plenty of NFL scouts and coaches. So yeah, I will believe them over Auburn's OC

NFL scouts know every rookie is going to be challenged transferring from their college style to the NFL. I dont think Luck knows our offense either. Believe what you want to believe.

I'm tired of hearing about 'pro-style offenses', since the NFL is getting further and further away from being under the center for the whole game that isn't a two-minute offense.

On average in the 2010-2011 season, QBs took the snap from shotgun around 50% of the time. Peyton Manning took the snap from shotgun 74% of the time. It's not like you have to live under center in the NFL these days, or as if the learning process to do so is hard.

Scouts know that too. It just gives talking heads more **** to spew when they run out of crap to talk about.

I think the verbiage thing is overblown. I think the reason they called plays by number at Auburn had more to do with tempo and speeding up the game and getting the defense winded. Cam is an intelligent guy. He won't have any trouble calling a play in the huddle.
