Cecil: The fall of the Soviet Union has fostered both an environment for freedom and slavery in Eastern Europe. Though many governments are democratically elected, these fragmented nations often times suffer due to a lack of economic building blocks such as natural resources, fragile, outdated, or non-existent infrastructure, or skilled workers. The result is that organized crime has become prevalent in these areas, often times providing services that the government or municipalities cannot. This creates a recipe where, between corruption and intimidation, many areas are no better off than they were previous to the collapse of the the USSR.

Jackie: I agree wholeheartedly. A sad situation indeed.
