Your reaction when Newton was drafted

I didn't and still don't know how to react this pick of Cam Newton...

On one side, he is a player with tremendous upside and swagger and could really benefit both as a solid player and QB but also as a media icon here in the Carolinas which would allow more publicity then we have ever seen before.

On the other hand, being married to a Georgia fan, I get the horrors that my wife keeps telling me. She informed me of the story of last season when Georgia and Auburn were playing and how dirty Auburn players were playing. At one point, Aaron Murray, the QB for Georgia got hurt and when Cam came out on offense, mocked Murray by pretending to be injured and got up smiling and then he went back to his teammates and they started to joke about it.

Fact is, a lot of people close to me believe his is too cocky and makes it too much about himself.

For me, it is a wait and see matter.

Like many other fans, I felt like we made the wrong pick. We had a great CB or DT sitting there but we took a project QB. Unlike most fans I do trust our new coaches and the front office so I accept the pick and look forward to him competing for the QB job.

The man won two consecutive national championships for different teams. Having a player like that on our roster is EXCITING, regardless of the position.

That is a different question though than how it felt to see him taken first overall, knowing that if he fails we will fail for the next 3 or 4 years. To that point, I am nervous and anxious. I don't know whether to anticipate he'll be a bust, or to let my optimism grow to ridiculous proportions(Superbowl).

I would feel better about the pick, if I already had faith in the Panthers organization with regards to the task of developing QBs. But since I am as ignorant about that as I am about Newton's work ethic, I will remain anxious and skeptical.

We jumped off a cliff. If we land safely, we'll be the heros that everyone wants to high-5. If not, we'll go splat. There is not much if any middle ground.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
