Minnesota Vick-ings?

Leonard Little killed a woman. No matter how much syrup we pour on that fact, its what he did. And he's since been busted for DUI AGAIN after that. Jamal Lewis pled guilty and did fed time for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Every week there's some player getting busted for drug possession or domestic abuse. I stand by my statement if Vick played any other position but quarterback there wouldnt be the resistance to give him a second chance.

I don't think it has to do with his skin color or his position, KT. I think people who love animals will never forgive him, period. There are a lot of people on this board who don't love animals, and their attitude seems to be "he'll be back, he deserves a second chance." That's the line of division.

Ive met people who are animal lovers who dont like him. I understand their stance. But the vast majority of Vick haters disliked him long before the dogfighting charges came up. He was being called a "thug" and "no good" long before he faced his first criminal charges. Hell I love animals and have owned dogs and other pets. But I love humans too, and I believe in redemption. Vick has served his time and he deserves another shot, and he will get it.

But....he's a FALCON. ;)

And speaking of serving your time and second chances, it's time Pete Rose was reinstated and put in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Don't you agree?

Only reason Vick is viewed differently is he's a black QB. If he played corner or RB or any other position thats not looked to for leadership and glory nobody would be crying about him coming back.

That's as paranoid as anything I've ever read

There's no great conspiracy out there to stifle black quarterbacks, and there's no great league wide plan to keep Michael Vick from coming back. The only thing that's out there are individual teams trying to decide whether the benefits outweigh the risks, and for the ones who have spoken out so far, the answer is no.

If he's reinstated - and that's not a given - then a team where character isn't a priority (like the Raiders) will probably wind up with him. But in truth, character isn't the only issue.

If he were Warren Moon (pure passer) or Steve McNair (solid passer that can also run) he'd likely get more looks, but since he's Michael Vick (good runner, lousy passer) teams are going to be wary, and with good reason.

Vick is the kind of quarterback you have to adjust the whole offense to fit. He's a superior runner but a lousy passer, so you have to tailor the passing game around only those throws he can consistently make, and history has shown that's a short list.

Thus, you adjust personnel, scheme, playcalling, everything. And in doing so, you make your passing game more predictable. A lot of work, and who knows in the end if it'll really even be worth it?

Bottom Line: There are a load of knocks on Vick, and plenty of reasons to think he's more trouble than he's worth. The fact that he's black isn't one of them. no matter how hard you try to make it about that.

I think QBs do need to be judged differently character wise because of their position as someone who SHOULD be a leader. That said, if Vick is reinstated and some team wants to take a chance on him, that should be up to them. They're the ones who will have to deal with all the ramifications of it.

    • Tell me something I don’t know. I said right there in what you quoted I wasn’t optimistic. I said I could still be hopeful. Which ain’t the same but will have to do.  I have optimism regarding more compartmentalization aspects of the team. Some players. The good draft we had is cause for optimism. Maybe that Tepper is actually being less harmful. Maybe.  I had some for Canales but his meter is about 50% right now with me.  Etc
    • Got a little more juice in us this period. Gotta get these chances to start falling. Ducks and us keep getting these chippies that are missing. First team to start banging these in and I think the floodgates open.
    • The things that make people give up on him is that he is getting worse in terms of simple football things and he isn't improving on much in terms of being a WR. He has improved his drops but then he has increased his insanely boneheaded penalties. I mean, the dude has THREE false start penalties. That is the second most on the team.  Couple that with his obvious limitations in terms of field vision, agility, etc and you just start to wonder what there really is to even believe in. I'll put it this way, when such a notoriously terrible personnel management coach like Canales gives up on you, that's saying a lot. He has ridden more bums for longer than any of us care to remember.
