QBs who have won the heisman in the NFL.

Recommended Posts

Instead of lumping Cam Newton in with every heisman-winning QB ever, (since guys like Chris Weinke, Jason White, and Troy Smith were clearly considered to be franchise guys, what with being picked late in the draft and all.) lets see what kind of company he has if you only consider QBs who won the heisman and were then drafted #1 overall.

Sam Bradford

Carson Palmer

Vinny Testaverde

Jim Pluncket

Angelo Bertelli

Yep Cam is gonna suck it's official.

Stop with this ray of sunshine crap, are you crazy?

How many of those guys were drafted #1 overall after winning the Heisman, and National Championship in the same physical year?

sorry but leaving out Ware and Leinart to make a point is cherry picking..

So too is deciding that certain players weren't drafted to be franchise guys just because of where they were drafted (IMO coaches seemed pretty confident in Weinke but hell maybe I'm wrong)

if we go with just #1s, then sure, not every QB drafted #1 who has won a Heisman has been terrible but... so what? The Heisman tells you nothing...

How is it cherry picking? The data left out Ware and Leinhart, he didn't leave them out. Turns out that good players accomplished that feat too. It doesn't mean anything but if he found a positive correlation, good for him.

plain and simple college success won't tell us how he's going to be in the NFL and it will always be chaotic process.

But what he's doing isn't illogical cherry picking. It's a fair comparison. It just doesn't really mean anything.

But Cam won two national championships. That must mean he is great. ;)

We could extend it to cover the entire 1st round if you want, but I'm pretty sure that only adds The Golden Calf of Bristol and Leinart.

Do you want to add Leinart and The Golden Calf of Bristol??? Leinart has had a BAD career and The Golden Calf of Bristol is still in question. his die hard fans will say he played great and the people who dont like The Golden Calf of Bristol will say he looked awful, but people like me who likes The Golden Calf of Bristol, but judges him normally will say, he wasnt bad or great, in the middle somewhere.

This. I think a better sampling would be entire 1st round. But you would also add Andre Ware.

I think you have to also look at the fact that QB's are often taken first overall because the guaranteed money is so high now and many GM's feel like the QB position is the only one that justifies the money.
