Starting Slot WR for the Panthers next Season?

Pilares won't see the field for quite a while anyhow (depending on if the season starts on time or not)

so this debate is kind of pointless.. if it were down to Edwards and Pilares, then at the start of the season, there is only one answer.

I'd like to see Smith in the slot on occasion. When you need the experienced player to make a play I'm putting Smitty in the slot. But I'd like to see Edwards establish himself he's got a lot of talent.

We have only seen that for ONE game vs. Michigan, and the rest vs FCS scrubs. I'm not saying he's awful, but I'm saying we don't know that his talent translates to the NFL... so far, it doesn't. Granted, I doubt Jerry Rice would have had a good year for us last year...so, we'll see.

we're going to have 4-5 receiver sets on a regular basis. not sure it matters who is going to be considered the starting slot guy.

I surely hope so.. there are a lot more creative plays out there than what we've seen in the past. spreading the field would only take advantage of that.

Still, Pilares most likely will be out for quite a while with that PCL injury. one report mentioned half the season.

I think you are getting Pilares and Hogan confused. Hogan's ACL might take till mid season to be completely ok, but 4 months is a minimum amount of time to return from his surgery and by season's start it will have been 8 months.

Pilares' injury, on the other hand, was just a sprained PCL, there's no reason he should miss any time, he did his pro day on the sprained knee afterall.

After spraining his PCL in his left knee while returning a punt in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Pilares said the ligament has healed and didn’t need surgery. However, the injury inspired him to prepare for the NFL. Pilares began a rehabilitation program in Hawaii. After a month of physical therapy, he was ready for the NFL Combine.

“A lot of people are surprised at how fast I have healed,” he said. “At the Combine I didn’t really do much. I just benched. At my Pro Day, I did run great, and people were surprised about that. It is feeling very good right now.”

Vick is pretty much the greatest and most gifted scrambler out there and he's never really been an unstoppable terror like the most gifted pocket passers with similar salaries.

Newton is slower and weighs more. He's not going to be a terror when he takes off.

Rolls outs and QB sneaks would be more terrifying.

damn, you're right.. Hogan will take quite a while to recover.
