how much do you tip your bartender?

This.

After you have worked in the service industry.....its just standard. Really Really Really have to try hard for me to tip you anything under 20%. I always give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Having worked as a server, you know what it feels like to get tipped horribly....and believe me, I remember every single person that has given me a pooty tip. Karma bitches.

Oh, and all of you who "don't think we should be tipped because we didn't give you service up to your standards" can go fug yourselves.

Right.

Rarely have i found bad service to be the fault of the server. It's usually the fact that the restaurant is understaffed, the chef is new etc...

Sure sometimes the bartender is just an idiot but this is rare.

Unless they have prior experience as a bartender, they usually have to work up to this elite status, so if they suck they will get fired before this happens.

I usually tip more than 20%+ because I was a server for a while in college. If they suck and/or are fat they get 10%

I'm not hard to please but if you are working <5 tables and you fug up my order you is getting $3.50.

Oh can I get extra sugar and lemons with my water?

went to applebees last night to hang out with some friends... the table behind us was bitching at our waitress nonstop. every time she brought the food out they'd complain that it wasn't cooked right and sent her back to the kitchen no less than six times to have it redone, then finally said they just wanted it for free.

that's the kind of poo that you become uber sensitive about when you work in the industry. we tipped her 100% to make up for it

Yeah, depending on the type of place you work (Applebees is a PERFECT example), you will constantly get people who want to try somehow to get their food for free. They will complain about the dumbest poo. They are also normally the table that's going to "run" you. Meaning every single time you go to the table they need something and then when you get back, they need something else, and so on.

Worst people ever to wait on. Plus you always know the ones that work you the most will most likely give you a horrible tip. Also, there are the "verbal" tippers who will tell you you are doing a GREAT job but when it comes down to the bill, they only leave about 5%. words don't pay my bills jackass.

One time I had this table that refused to eat off of our silverware b/c "it was dirty and they didn't trust it" so they made me bring them to-go plastic silverware. Then they covered their drinks with napkins the whole time they were there b/c there is some crazy ebola air virus going around that will only sink into THEIR drinks. They made me take everything we brought out back to the kitchen so it could be "remade" (aka put on the flat top and right back onto their plate), and magically it was sooo much better after it had been "remade" to their standards.

Oh, and props to you for tipping her 100% to make up for it, you probably made her night.

Depends on how long I'm there for and how drunk I get. Generally $1 a beer, $2 for mixed, 25% or so for a larger tab

Also depends a lot on the person and their attitude. My problem is I've known too many bartenders in the past and sometimes that makes me not want to tip.
