Cam Newton - He'll be an elite QB 3 years from now.

Terrell McClain - He'll break Drew Brees in half.

Sione Fua - How the hell do you say this guys name?

Brandon Hogan - I think he's a steal.

Kealoha Pilares - Sorry, never heard of the guy before Saturday.

Lawrence Wilson - Will be a very good special teams guy.

Zack Williams - Don't know much about this guy either.

Lee Ziemba - Nice backup RT for a 7th round pick.

Cam Newton - A huge reach that will define a GM for years to come.

Terrell McClain - Immediate upgrade at a position of need.

Sione Fua - We needed a big run stuffer and we got one.

Kealoha Pilares - Quick, elusive, hungry.

Lawrence Wilson - our ST coach said he'd have input in the draft and maybe he just did.

Zack Williams - Depth at a position we needed.

Ziemba - How the HELL was he still on the board here?!

1 - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (6-5, 248)

Could be a top star in the league and I'm definitely warming up a ton to the kid. He seems ready to step up.

3- Terrell McClain, DT, South Florida (6-2, 297)

I had read some things about the kid but never had him projected here. After further review, he was a motor, consistent, and quick.

3 - Sione Fua, DT, Stanford (6-1, 308);

And filling the other DT void is Sione Fua someone who I liked and had in a mock. Awesome pick in my opinion.

4 - Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia (5-10, 192)

He claims his character issues are over and he hasn't screwed up since. All I know is when he's on the field, he's a decent force.

5 - Kealoha Pilares, WR, Hawaii (5-10, 199);

My favorite pick of the draft so he gets multiple sentences: Pilares has the mold to be a DeSean/Smitty type and could be an absolute steal...I think he's a great compliment to the all-around (hopefully our new #1) Gettis and the possession-blocker in LaFell. Take into consideration our new staff and what they could possibly do with Armanti and I say we're in good shape even without Smitty.

6 - Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Connecticut (6-1, 229);

? Never really checked on this player but his stats are impressive. Some of his videos are underwhelming but we have the top defensive mind in the league here and we'll see what happens.

6 - Zack Williams, C, Washington State (6-3, 309)

Yeah for depth!

7 - Lee Ziemba, OT, Auburn (6-6, 317)

My favorite of thr 2 offensive linemen taken. Very promising

1 - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (6-5, 248)

I really think we need to lower our expectations of Cam to a more realistic level, but it's just so damn hard not to dream about his potential. Reading that article about him and JR made me feel very good about him as a person and I really feel like he could be the face of the franchise very soon...

3- Terrell McClain, DT, South Florida (6-2, 297)

The draft gurus were all over the place with this guy but I liked him in the third round...to me very similar abilities to Landri but maybe more natural talent. That should be a good cometition for the three technique starting DT.

3 - Sione Fua, DT, Stanford (6-1, 308);

A bit of a reach for Fua but not by much...maybe a round early. Fua is strong at the point of attack and should be a good rotational lineman. Still need a vet at this position.

4 - Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia (5-10, 192)

He scares the crap out of me...had some injuries and limitations but we may have found a hidden gem...may not be a huge factor this year bc of his injury.

5 - Kealoha Pilares, WR, Hawaii (5-10, 199);

I have to be honest that I hadn't heard of him before he was drafted...and I looked at a lot of receivers. However, he fits what I wanted in the draft...someone who could play the slot and give another weapon to the QB's.

6 - Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Connecticut (6-1, 229);

Right after this pick I immediately thought of the nickel defense...I remember last year when they would bring in Marcus Hudson to play like a "hybrid" position during nickel and dime...I think Wilson could do this job even better.

6 - Zack Williams, C, Washington State (6-3, 309)

Needed a backup to Kalil...

7 - Lee Ziemba, OT, Auburn (6-6, 317)

Great value for an aggressive tackle who reminds me of Schwartz.

1 - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (6-5, 248);

Has IT. Leader of men and uber talented.

3- Terrell McClain, DT, South Florida (6-2, 297);

This Bull impressed many teams. We had to reach at top of third.

3 - Sione Fua, DT, Stanford (6-1, 308);

Fireplug build. Guy is stout against the run.

4 - Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia (5-10, 192);

Aggressive player with swagger.

5 - Kealoha Pilares, WR, Hawaii (5-10, 199);

Who? But i trust Ricky Prohl.

6 - Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Connecticut (6-1, 229);

Special teamer with speed.

6 - Zack Williams, C, Washington State (6-3, 309);

Backup center and utility guy.

7 - Lee Ziemba, OT, Auburn (6-6, 317)

Right guard material. Steal of our draft.

Very Polian-like draft. We drafted players that fit our (new) system. Here is what I really like about our draft:

1. Cam, McClain, Fua, Hogan, Pilares, and possibly Ziemba will either start or play in a rotation at some point in 2011. I think we will find a place for Ziemba, but he is the biggest question mark. I see him at RG.

1 - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (6-5, 248); He has amazing physical potential and has proven to be clutch.

3- Terrell McClain, DT, South Florida (6-2, 297); A versatile DT that we needed.

3 - Sione Fua, DT, Stanford (6-1, 308); A run stopping DT that should see the rotation as a rookie.

4 - Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia (5-10, 192); One of the first "questionable character" guys we've taken in years, interesting move.

5 - Kealoha Pilares, WR, Hawaii (5-10, 199); I've heard he was a steal or undraftable, want to see more.

6 - Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Connecticut (6-1, 229); He should be a good special teamer.

6 - Zack Williams, C, Washington State (6-3, 309); We needed another body to back up Kalil.

7 - Lee Ziemba, OT, Auburn (6-6, 317) A late pick with some upside is always nice.

As a whole, it's an interesting draft that should probably be viewed with a little hesitation. We drafted multiple prospects that could fail to work out, which is not what you want when picking so high. However, it was gutsy which brings much needed excitement to the team in the short term.

1 - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (6-5, 248);

Our new face of the franchise. Lets hope he keeps smiling the rest of his career in Carolina.

3- Terrell McClain, DT, South Florida (6-2, 2-97);

Fast for a big guy. Hope it translates.

3 - Sione Fua, DT, Stanford (6-1, 308);

Adding Depth to DT. Seems like solid "safe" pick.

4 - Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia (5-10, 192);

QB in high school, Slot receiver behind Dareus Reynaud for a year, switched to cornerback to finish his college career... Straight up, this guy is a FOOTBALL PLAYER. Understand the character concerns, but love that we took a chance on him.

5 - Kealoha Pilares, WR, Hawaii (5-10, 199);

Love the pick, tough little WR that is all about the YAC! I will however not compare him to Smitty just yet (although it is enticing). He needs to punch someone in the face first.

6 - Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Connecticut (6-1, 229);

Only pick that suprised me (positionally speaking) hope he adds solid depth to an already strong LB corp.

6 - Zack Williams, C, Washington State (6-3, 309);

Center... exciting... hopefully nothing ever happens to Kalil and this guy will move somewhere else on the O-line.

7 - Lee Ziemba, OT, Auburn (6-6, 317)

Hurney: Hey Cam, Ziemba is still on the board in the 7th... would you feel safe behind him on the NFL level?

Cam: He should have been selected in the 3rd. This guy protected my blindside all season. Please pull the trigger.

(This is not an actual conversation, just my interpretation of what happened)
