Looks like my source was correct about us having faith in Rivera and taking a chance on character guys such as Hogan. With that said I talked to him last night and was told our main target when free agency comes around is Barry Cofield.

I believe Cofield was coached by one of our coaches, maybe Washington, at Northwestern. With the pick of Marvin Austin yesterday it is extremely unlikely he will be going back to the Giants.

Also was told Davis, Williams, and Johnson will be back you can bet on that. They want to bring back Anderson but will not get into a bidding war with anyone for his services. Also there is a better chance toda then there was a few days ago Marshall willl be back. They do not think Hogan will be able to step in and start right away and they do not want Munnerlyn starting. They will take a long look at CBs on the free agent market.

Finally do not expect any big name veteran QBs to be brought in. Hurney still thinks that Clausen can be a good QB in this league and Rivera wants Newton to start from day 1. They will give both as many snaps as possible to compete in pre-season for Newton to get experience and Jimmy to bring up his trade value. Do not be surprised if Matt Moore is brought back and the names Jim Sorgi and Todd Collins were brought up to me. Dont expect Derek Anderson, Hasselbeck, Bulger, or anyone like that.

They went into the draft with the plan to get a starting CB and sign a Keydrick Vincent type guard in free agency, but now look for the opposite to happen.

Finally they would not have taken Ellis over McClain if the situation came up, but they really liked Johnny Patrick CB of Louisville who was taken by the Saints.

After Rudolph and the kid from Virginia were taken they had not interest in trading up into the second round. They really had a high grade McClain and were not going to trade up for another DT. Never considered a TE after Rudolph was taken.

Once again believe me if you'd like, if not do not waste my time and call me a liar just move on.

Man if this is true its mostly good stuff! I am pumped about bringing in Barry Coffield! I have eyed him as a potential fit for us for around 6 months after reading he was a free agent over at footballsfuture.com! I just hope we do indeed Keep James Anderson and Bring in some sort of Veteran! If we keep Marshall which I hope we do that would be icing on the cake, that would really help while Hogan gets healthy! Good Stuff thanks for the insight!

hey bro is this the same guy who told you were going to trade up for Kyle Rudolph?

I am the same guy who said who said that character issues were no longer a big cocern and the Panthers were interested in guys with some character concerns that they never would have taken in the past. Well the first pick of the third day they took Hogan from West Virginia. I also never said they were going to trade up for Randolph or the CB from Virginia if they fell inyto the mid 20's of the second round. I said they were the top two on their draft board. You do not go to believe it just move on man.

You are the coolest bro coming on this message board telling me I am a liar, but in reality what do you know.

Great job man!!! Thanks for the info. I have one question though, how did they feel after the draft? I've always wondered what the front office feels like after walking away from a draft and seeing what they came away with. I know it's no comparison but sometimes when I step back and look at what I did in a fantasy football draft I'm like "what was I thinking"...kinda like I was caught up in the moment. Just wondering how they feel and if they got the players they wanted. It really seemed to me that they followed their board and picked guys when they needed to...this was really a "need" draft instead of a luxury draft.

They felt good about the draft like you would expect, got every position they were targeting. They planned on getting a CB high and signing a RG through free agency, but after the draft they feel they sured up the o-line and will look for a CB.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. After last season, I feel like the Panthers owe the fans a little something, so a little inside info couldn't hurt.

I completely agree on Marshall, he is overrated and wants too much money for what he is worth. He was a great nickel corner and is a great tackler, but his man coverage is suspect. Godfrey took a lot of heat for Marshall's blown coverages.

I also want to add how solid I think our secondary could be if we could add a good corner through free agency or next year's draft. If Munnerlyn and Hogan are 3 and 4, and we can add a stop-gap guy through free agency I will be very pleased.

Also I remember reading somewhere that Meek's cover-2 scheme utilized more zone than man for the corners and that Gamble didn't like that because he is a better man corner. Will McDermont/Rivera's defense be more man coverage or not?

Finally, I feel like I'm only asking questions about the secondary, but wtf happened with Gamble last year? Is it a future problem, or a dispute with Fox? I pray the latter
