Grade the Panthers draft

This draft will live and/or die with Cam. That said, I think we picked up at least one starter in the 3rd round between McClain/Fua and Hogan will be a solid nickel/dime guy and has starting type ability if he works out. Pilares will make an impact. We just found our new Proehl. Also think Ziemba will end up starting for us - or at the very least be a Jeremy Bridges type 'swing' OL.

Not much to not like about this draft, IMO. Not overly thrilled with Lawrence Wilson or Zack Williams, but they're not awful picks either. I give it an A-.

B; A if they hadn't of picked Newton.

Actually, in all seriousness, since there wasn't really a good choice, I can't really say they did a bad job picking Newton. I just don't like #1 picks... well, even round 1 picks. Too much money involved.

I put a B-

The D tackles we got are solid, but may not have a big impact for 2-3 years. Brandon Hogan is good, but get's beat alot and has character issues.

Everyone is bashing the WR pick but I think the guy will contribute, he's quick, flashy, and a good athlete. He rushed for 700 yds too so the guy knows how to play.

Not a big fan on the Wilson pick because I don't think he's that good, but loved the big lineman from Auburn. The other guy is a rotational player.

We filled needs, but it might take 2-3 years for them to show an immediate impact.

Cam obviously is helping out the overall grade because of he's a beast.

JR must have told Hurney not to touch those picks, probably because Hurney will be gone next year and there is no need to mess things up for the next guy.

Why would be even be here now if JR was planning to fire him before next season?

IMO he should have been fired the Monday after the draft last year.

I actuallly gave them a C-, they did well at the beginning and the end of the draft but in between there were lots of risky questionable picks. It is one thing using a first on a quarterback who is a game changer. But picking a corner coming off ACL reconstruction who at best can't even run full speed uintil August and will contribute nothing this year makes little sense. Add a converted WR who is also coming off injury when there were more established receivers/returners who could have been had with a 6th instead of a 5th, and you have to question this draft and certainly not give it high marks. Sure it wasn't 2005 in all likelihood, but we got the top pick in every round but the second and should have hit it out of the park, and we clearly didn't.
