I did not like this pick at first, and have a "wait and see" attitude. He will probably be depth most of his early career. He can play center and either guard. Our OL coached worked with him at one of the all star bowl games and liked him. He is pretty fast, can block in space, and did well on agility drills. More reasons to like the pick:

1. They did not like Bernardeau at backup C.

2. Very soon, we have some important decisions to make involving the three interior linemen: a) Wharton is 31 and makes about $6 million per--a lot for a LG; b) Kalil is under a rich contract for one year--he could leave; c) We have no established RG at this time. Collectively, can we afford to pay Kalil, Gross, Otah, and Wharton multimillion dollar salaries? If someone is let go for cap reasons in 2012, I am betting on Wharton if we re-sign Kalil. If not, can he move to C and be successful?

3. He provides depth at 3 positions and roster spots are at a premium.

4. He is raw, so he has upside.
