Jimmy Clausen

I don't know about anyone else, but I've gained a lot of respect for Jimmy with the way he's handled this whole situation with Cam. First one in the building to pickup the playbook, welcoming him to the team, texting him, etc.

You know he's gotta be pissed about it, but instead of bitching he's simply gotten to work. Call me crazy, but I have this odd feeling that Jimmy Clausen is going to help this team out in a big way down the road at some point.

I think by playing fairly well this year and becoming some other team's answer, re-couping our 3rd we spent on him or maybe even a second.

He would have to be pretty damn good to get a second for him.

Let's hope for a 6th and anything better than that is gravy

jimmy is a class act, but i have no problem him becoming a footnote in panther history.

he played an instrumental part in our getting newton.

i hope he has an opportunity to show that he can be a lot better than he was last year, but the only reason for that is so that he can have some good trade value. i don't care what happens to him after that. i hope he doesn't have as many opportunities to showcase what he can do as schaub had in atlanta, but i sure would like getting what they got for him (trading 1sts and also getting two 2nd rounders).

i just don't think that clausen will be given much of an opportunity aside from preseason games unless newton gets hurt. maybe a couple games early on in the season, but i want newton starting before the bye week. preferably the 2 games prior to the bye.

I agree.

There really is no way for Clausen to see the field. You gotta think either Cam starts from the get go or they bring in a vet until he is ready...

I just can't see an arguement for Jimmy seeing the field without injury being the factor.

I feel the same. I was not a fan of the Clausen pick at all and his performance just made me resent the pick even more. But the way he has handled himself throughout the season and post season showed me he is a better man than I thought. I also respected the way he kept picking himself up off field play after play and not showing a lot of anger or frustration. He has taken sole responsibility for his play and never tried to deflect when he would have been sort of justified because he had a lot of help.

But I will not be sad to see him go.

I like Jimmy, I think he is a good kid who tries hard. He was put into a crappy spot last year with a horrible OC. I live in Raleigh and like 2 wear my Clausen jersey to the local bar ( the Goat). I don't care what people say to me about him. It brings me great joy to see him make a good play. Even if there are not that many. ps I hate Notre Dame, I am a Duke football fan.

And, this is why I didn't want a qb first overall, regardless of who it was.

Look, Clausen was terrible on a level that was practically legendary, last year. No one in their right mind would deny that.

But it's really hard to argue that any qb could've succeeded with the perfect storm of having the entire wide receiving corps being unproven save for Steve. And even Steve isn't what he once was. You factor in the offensive line falling apart, Jeff Davidson not knowing how to call plays or design a game-plan if you held a shotgun to his head, and our incredibly difficult schedule last season, and there's no way anyone could have succeeded last year.

I mean, Clausen was bad, Moore was bad, FA QB Of The Week was bad.

There's a connection, there.

There's no way to know who's going to succeed, or not, this season, until the lockout is lifted and the coaches actually get to get together with Cam, Jimmy, and whoever else and actually get to teach them.

Honestly, I'm rooting for Jimmy as much as I am anyone else, because I hated our picking him last year almost as much as I hated picking an absolute project like Cam this year.

But they are on the roster now, and nothing I do or say can change that, and so all I can do is hope for the best for everyone.

And what's best for everyone is for all of our quarterbacks to get a chance at proving and/or bettering themselves, and figuring out what our best option is for this season.

Honestly, I think the smartest solution, provided that free agency happens, is to sign someone like a Gradowski and let both Clausen and Newton develop for another year, and then evaluate things from that point.

Well within my right mind, I would. David Carr in a Carolina Panther uniform was terrible on a level that was practically legendary. Clausen was just a rookie QB thrown onto the field before he was ready and under extremely less than optimum circumstances.

Clausen is a 2nd round draft pick who was asked to start before he was ready behind an injured offensive line with 2 rookie WRs, a vet WR who was blanketed, and defenses loading the box to stop his only real weapon. Rivera himself said it was impossible to evaluate Clausen based on the conditions and situation under which he was forced to play.

Clausen, like Newton now, needed to sit behind and learn from a serious, experienced veteran - instead he had Matt Moore. Both Clausen and Newton could benefit from that same situation, sitting behind and learning from an experienced veteran while being developed by Schula. During that process the competition to see who the better QB is could/would determine who the starting QB will be.

I do not understand why so many are so willing to demand Clausen be released/booted. As I pointed out, we kept Eric Shelton and Dwayne Jarrett longer, giving them more opportunities to succeed, than Jimmy Clausen. Doesn't make sense.

you could add up every down Jarrett and Shelton where on the field intheir NFL career......and it wouldn't add up to the opportunities Clausen got.

The reason you give up on Clausen is he was given too much time.....should have shown something in all those reps. He didn't....and that can't be blamed on Fox or the WRs who produced when he wasn't on the field.

I do think Cam will be a great QB for the team, but I can't help but cheer for Clausen. At Jordan Gross' event Clausen went out of his way to oblige every autograph request and was really friendly. Cam on the other hand, ignored the 8 or so of us on his way out and wouldn't even look at us while his presidential escort made up of 2 cops and a bodyguard yelled at people to get out of his way.

Clausen was so bad otherwise intelligent people were clamoring for Armanti Edwards to play QB.

lies...

lol

-----------

in regards to this topic, I just find it hard to believe a rookie QB in the situation he was in last year is guaranteed to never improve and become at least an average QB in the league based off of last years results...

I have to agree in part with Ashor.. well, all I can say is if Clausen sticks around, everyone has a chance to look just as foolish in saying Clausen will never amount to anything..

That is a bit concerning :(
