Hate to remind folks, but it is possible that we stink this year, even to the point of having the #1 pick again next year. And yes, it's also possible that Newton turn out to not be the guy and even conceivable that Rivera and his staff might be awful.

Agree that it's utterly ridiculous to hope for those things (I sure as heck don't wanna watch another crappy season, especially after getting my hopes up) but it's delusional to think that there's no way it could happen.

As far as what we should do if it does, that'd depend on the reasons why we got there. All of that is, at this point, hypothetical and for me anyway, not especially interesting right now.

I'd agree that it's a pointless discussion, especially right now.

That's not true at all. It's because he played in a simple offense. Now if Cam played in a pro offense like Luck, and still went on to have the kind of success he had, Newton would have been the most hyped up player in the history of sports. (Not just football) Bank on that!

We'll see what the kid can do, but if we have the first overall again next year, the Panthers would be stupid to pass on Luck. I would draft him, and let him and Cam battle it out for the starting role. The one who losses that battle, will be traded eventually.

I hope people will start to understand that Luck is a great prospect but he isn't the greatest prospect to ever go through the draft.

We have our QB now. You might not like it but no matter what happens Luck will never be a Panther.

Instead of hoping for Luck you should hope that if we are in that situation that we are able to acquire so many draft picks we would be loaded with talent over the next several years.

Wouldn't work well if the playbook is designed for Cam's skill set and not Luck's, you pick 1 of the 2 and stick with them until its determined they are the guy or a bust

So if you honestly think we're going to be the absolutely worst team in the league two years in a row, that means that you think a team with Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson, Ryan Kalil, Jordan Gross, Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, Steve Smith, and James Anderson is one of the absolute worst teams in the history of this league. Worse than teams like the Lions and Raiders who have never picked #1 back-to-back years. This is just plain stupid and you should feel bad.

First, let me say I agree with you. I don't think the Panthers will have the #1 pick again next year, and even if they do, I find it highly unlikely that they will pick Luck.

Now with that said, I will point out that every one of the players you mentioned was on the 2010 team that was the worst team in the league last year, so it might not be as far fetched as you think, especially given the schedule, on paper, looks more difficult this time around. (understanding that TD was injured - but if he's not JA doesn't flash like he did)

I'll just say, that if we are picking #1 next year and Luck declares.. I'll gladly accept the MULTIPLE first rounders + other high value picks/possibly players other teams will be throwing at us.
