"LULZ We'll just be drafting Andrew Luck next year!111!!!!111!"

Ever since Cam was selected, there have been a number of Panthers "fans" that keep bringing up the nearly accepted fact in their minds that we're going to have to pick Andrew Luck next year. I can't take this one anymore. I've heard this from redneck yokels on WFNZ, morons on here, idiot Facebook friends of mine, etc.

Teams have drafted first in back-to-back drafts only *6* times in NFL history dating back to the first draft in 1936. Since the Panthers have existed, the only team to have done were the expansion Browns in 1999 and 2000. So if you honestly think we're going to be the absolutely worst team in the league two years in a row, that means that you think a team with Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson, Ryan Kalil, Jordan Gross, Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, Steve Smith, and James Anderson is one of the absolute worst teams in the history of this league. Worse than teams like the Lions and Raiders who have never picked #1 back-to-back years. This is just plain stupid and you should feel bad.

Now let's just imagine that the impossible happens and we do end up dead last yet again next year or that the lockout means the season doesn't happen. Do you know how many times a team has drafted a quarterback with their first pick in 3 straight drafts? That would be, um, zero. Even if Cam is an absolute flop (and LOL at that thought), the money we'll have tied up with him and the pride of this team means they won't draft Andrew Luck next year if they have the opportunity even if Andrew Luck has the best season in college football quarterback history next year.

Finally, let me just say something in general about these people. Stop being little woe-is-us Eeyores. 2010 is no more. We have nowhere to go but up. A lot of you guys have this loser mentality that makes me embarrassed to be a Panthers fan when you call up to these radio shows and say how awful we're going to be for the next 10 years. Cowboy up you pussies.

Even if you didn't want Cam, I really hope that your love for the Panthers outweighs your dislike for Cam. Because if it does, that doesn't mean you're a fan. It means you're a hater. You need to get past Andrew Luck. We have our franchise quarterback of the future and his name is Cam Newton.

If the Panthers do get the #1 overall pick again next year, and its possible with the tough schedule, then they have to take Luck. They could then trade one of the 2 with Cam being traded.

If that happens and Cam doesn't look so hot this yr. I wonder how much trade value he'd have given contract. I don't know if they can do anything but trade out of the Luck pick to build around Cam for better or worse.

It's actually not possible. This team is healthy and will be coached by someone that's all in rather than someone with their foot halfway out the door. We're already better than last year and free agency hasn't started yet and we have more to spend than anyone. There is no chance that even one of these other bad teams is not worse than us in 2011.

Hate to remind folks, but it is possible that we stink this year, even to the point of having the #1 pick again next year. And yes, it's also possible that Newton turn out to not be the guy and even conceivable that Rivera and his staff might be awful.

Agree that it's utterly ridiculous to hope for those things (I sure as heck don't wanna watch another crappy season, especially after getting my hopes up) but it's delusional to think that there's no way it could happen.

As far as what we should do if it does, that'd depend on the reasons why we got there. All of that is, at this point, hypothetical and for me anyway, not especially interesting right now.
