Who should we take at #98?

Just read this on walterfootball in his new mock draft for rounds 4 and 5, for people wanting Marcus Cannon:

I hadn't heard he was going to have to sit this year. Anyone else know anything about that?

Pretty sure he is gonna have to go through chemotherapy this season. Which is unfortunate but has killed his stock.

I agree, but I don't really like any of the WR's left all that much. I do think we have a chance to get a future great TE in Jordan Cameron, though. He can serve a similar role for Cam for years to come. He's raw but we have Shockey for right now so he could sit and learn for a year and be eased in.

If not Cameron, then Virgil Green, Clint Boling, or maybe even Alex Henery if we feel like he'll be gone by our 5th rounder. Some solid talent left on the board, but I think Jordan Cameron is the best bet; he reminds me a lot of Jimmy Graham last year with the Saints. A raw talent with a ton of upside, but he played very well for them. He's basically the reason they cut Shockey, ironically.

Pro day times should be taken with a grain of salt. Just sayin'.

Yeah let's ignore that 27 scouts were there with timers. They were all wrong. And let's forget the 1100 yards and 100 catches and 27 yards a kickoff return or the 10 catches and 116 yards against Virginia tech. All those things don't matter.

I just had to register to talk about this. Casey Matthews out of Oregon, anybody? He's not strong, but that's not what Carolina needs. This guy can come in during passing situations and get sacks simply because this guy does not quit.

The highlights v. Oregon state. He's phenomenal.

The whole element in drafting a WR is tricky because of a number of reasons.

1. We drafted 3 last year why take another this year?

2. We have other spots that need to be filled (OL depth, CB, TE, maybe a DE backup)

3. If we do well with Newton and go say 7-9 or 8-8 we can get a much better receiver next year in the draft to replace Smith who I think we get a 3rd rounder for.

The 3rd option is the best one available to us right now imo. It will let us see how our young WRs do and will tell us if we even need a WR considering we could trade Smith and bring in a vet if we really wanted to. I can justify TE, CB, OL and even another DL or LB, but WR would be a throw away pick. Gettis and Lafell will def. start over whoever we would get, Smith would if he stays, and maybe even Edwards would. No reason to go get a 3rd or 4th WR right now when we can fill other needs.

But that's just my 2 cents on the whole drafting another WR thing.

I wouldn't mind seeing us pick up any of these 4 with our 4th round pick:

Edmond Gates, WR, Abilene Christian / 5'11'', 193, 4.37

- "Gates has explosive speed and displays a great burst. He really improved over his career from a late round, at best, prospect to a solid top 75 selection. Stretching the field and making defenders miss are something I expect him to do well at the next level as well as surprise with better than expected route running. A top 75 prospect who can contribute as a #2 or #3 receiver as a rookie and become a solid starter in the NFL who might even become a Pro Bowler eventually."

- "Gates is a tremendous athlete and one of the few game breakers available at the receiver position. He's also a solid pass catcher who must learn to do more than run in a straight line and catch the ball. Gates could produce in the NFL next season as a slot receiver and comes with a large upside."

Davonn House, CB, New Mexico St. / 6', 190, 4.5

- Was a four-year starter for the Aggies --- Named 1st Team All-WAC in 2009 and 2010, A battle-tested cover guy with the type of triangle numbers pro scouts look for, under-rated, talent to become a starter.

- House is a talented player who has been productive on the college level. He comes with a great amount of upside and has starting potential in the NFL if he is able to fine-tune his game and consistently do the little things well

Rashad Carmichael, CB, Va Tech / 5'10'' 192, 4.51

- Nickname is "Rock" --- Was a two-year starter for the Hokies --- Cousin of Clemson and NFL / CFL wide receiver Derrick Hamilton --- Excelled on special teams early in college career --- The next in a long line of top Va Tech corners, following in the footsteps of guys like Ike Charlton, DeAngelo Hall, Eric Green, Jimmy Williams, Brandon Flowers and Macho Harris --- Should be a standout in pre-draft workouts --- Boundary corner who possesses some intriguing physical tools as well as the top-notch intangibles needed to maximize that considerable potential.

Marcus Cannon, OG, TCU / 6'5'', 358

- A three-year starter for the Horned Frogs --- Named 1st Team All-MWC in 2009 and 2010 --- Redshirted in 2006 --- Backed up Nic Richmond, who is now with the San Diego Chargers, in 2007 --- Starter at right tackle in 2008 and 2009 then moved to left tackle in 2010 --- Missed just three games due to injury throughout college career --- Was also a member of the TCU Track and Field team, garnering All-MWC honors in the shot put --- Could project to left tackle, right tackle or guard at the next level --- Best fit may come with a team that employs a power offensive attack --- Amazing physical specimen with rare blend of size and athleticism --- Compares favorably to Shawn Andrews / Carl Nicks.

--- Think 'Road-Grader'. Him and a healthy Jeff Otah?! Oh my!

I'd like to see us go DB, WR, OL, TE (in that order) with our final picks. I think we need a starting caliber DB as I'm not a fan of Captain Munnerlyn lining up at 5'8" on the outside, I'd like to see someone close to or above 6'. I think we should bring in some talent/speed at WR, someone who can run a five yard pattern and take it fifteen plus. As far as OL (pending health) I think we already have solid starters, and some decent young backups (Williams, Robinson, Bernadeau) we should look to add a mauler for the run. Finally I say TE, Chud loves them, Rivera loves them, so I say draft an athlete at this position someone with potetial to be match-up nightmare after a year or two of development.

Surprise picks? Greg Salas, WR (hope not), James Brewer, OT (this might be a very good pick--can play RT, RG now and LT in future)--Boling is the safest pick.

Gates (WR) is 26 I think, so age could be an issue.

I think we go OL or CB. House or Burton--Brewer or Boling.
