What QB would you like to have backup Cam Newton?

Now that Cam Newton has arrived and has essentially been crowned the new king in Carolina, what QB would you most prefer to backup Cam as he goes through "the process"?

I'm voting Matt Moore - at least we know he's capable of winning a few games, and he's not pickles.

McNabb if he can sit on the bench without whining

Would be nice...similar style of QB. But does McNabb really want to sit on the bench, and for how much $$$??? Is he even leaving Washington? They had a shot at Gabbert and traded the pick.

I doubt he'd want to sit. I think Cam wouldnt mind sitting and learning from him. McNabb is good to miss at least 5 games a season anyway. I think the Redskins will look at another free agent QB or draft one today. McNabb wont cost much if he's released no one will pay top dollar for him to play.

Tough question.

Consider the factors:

1. New Coach - Rivera must show improvement immediately. He really needs at least a 6-10 or 7-9 season, minimum, to solidify his reputation. Anything less, and he risks criticism and doubt, something which can be detrimental to his leadership.

2. Our schedule - Worst in the league... even 6-10 is a daunting task which will require our current talent to step up, and any FA QB to be consistent and competent.

3. Our division - Toughest in the league. Atlanta is fairly young. Tampa is very young. New Orleans is a very well managed team and is already making smart moves to keep going strong. We need some awesome talent starting immediately to dent these guys.

4. Our current QBs - Moore is a competent backup. He could even been a decent temporary QB. Not sure what he offers as a mentor however. Clausen is not starting material. Pike is a 3rd stringer. Not looking great for options here.

5. Who's available? - One of the considerations going into the draft was WHO would we take in Free Agency if we didn't take Newton. The answer was pretty bleak. Still is. McNabb is a name getting thrown around... but honestly... there's something wrong with McNabb. He's got a shakey work ethic (not bad, just a little too quick to blame others for his failings). I don't trust him to properly mentor Newton. Who else does that leave? Palmer? Volek?

6. The price of a Free Agent - Money is not an unlimited resource for our team. We've got several Free Agents we have to resign already on our team. Even without a salary cap, it's going to be tough paying a FA QB who's good enough to deal with points 1, 2 and 3 above.

I'd say our best bet right now is to let our current stable compete in camp and preseason and start the best option. UNLESS... there is a QB who suddenly becomes available who we can afford that is a no-brainer pickup.

Any place that McNabb goes, he has to realize that he's not the future anymore. Perhaps he is ready to accept this realization. I'd test the waters. Nothing says that Newton has to play this year (except injury). Rivera already said, in so many words, that he is not going to throw Cam to the wolves.

    • No one is asking him to be Tom Brady. They're just asking him to be as good if not better than Cooper Rush, Jimmy Garoppolo and Carson Wentz. We'd like Young to be better than Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, but we're not even asking for that. No matter how you cut it he's going to be considered a bust for what was given up for him. He should be outpacing Cam Newton, Jake Delhomme and Kerry Collins game for game in their careers. He should at least be challenging the clutch level of Brady, Mahomes, Stafford, Goff, Garoppolo, Burrow, Hurts and Purdy. Remember that's based on the draft capital given up for Young, and not the extremely low bar Young has actually set for himself.
    • Even if you cherry pick Bryce post benching and ignore everything else and project it out over a full season….. there is no statistical  argument Kyler has ever been worse.   I’m no Murray fan as I agree he is more athlete than QB.   And I’m open to Bryce improving and support us continuing to develop him as this point.
    • We need LBs--build the roster from the bottom up.  On offense, we have Coker who has been huge...if you fill your weaknesse without having to use free agent $$$ or draft picks--win win.
