Trade For McNabb

Agreed.

They are alot alike.

I think McNabb would teach him how to play the game properly with a similiar skill set.

Not only do they have a similar skill set, McNabb knows what its like to face heavy criticism from his own fanbase.

I also think McNabb is probably a player inparticular that Newton has looked up to since he was a kid.

I agree (even though our system doesn't really play to McNabb's strengths). McNabb does have the arm to stretch the field though, and it probably wouldn't even take that high of a pick to get him. Remember, they only gave up two 2nds for him. They'd probably take our 2nd next year for him and call it a deal. Or at most a 4th/5th this year + 2nd next year type package.

Funny how similar they kind of are, in terms of criticism. Both got boo'd at the announcement of the pick, both were/are considered more running QBs that will have to learn the pro game. Newton has FAR better natural tools than McNabb did though.

Squirrel, I'm with ya on the idea of acquiring him, but...

I don't think McNabb is ready to be a someone's stable pony, which is essentially what he'd be. I could be wrong, but Im guessing he wants to go to a place where he's gonna be THE guy, where he's less likely to end up in a situation like he did last year.

The Redskins will try to swindle us and plunder us for every pick we have, this year and next. The only way I would want to see McNabb come here is if he is released, and we sign him. Yet between giving Newton a record contract (because the rookie cap probably won't be in place before we sign Newton up), and signing our other players like D-will and Charles Johnson, we won't have enough money to sign anyone.

How could they possibly try to swindle us for him? They gave up two 2nds, and BENCHED him. It's not like his time in Washington INCREASED his value...

I disagree about the rookie cap not being in place, I'm pretty sure the new CBA will have to be in place before contracts are signed and the cap will be part of the CBA...ergo....Cam will be signed with a rookie cap in place.

I think you're right that if we do get a shot at McNabb, it will be because he's released and not through a trade.

Second, if I remember correctly, there isn't a salary cap to speak of this year and Richardson has been building something of a war chest. I think there's room for some higher profile acquisitions, at least in terms of money.

Yet the Redskins see our need at QB, and they will take advantage of that. We know how dumb Hurney can be, and we also know Hurney's job is on the line, so he might be desparate enough to do anything at this point.

If we can continue with free agency even though the there is no new CBA, then signing our rookies will also be possible without the CBA in place.

If that's the case, maybe we should look at bringing in Asomugha or another strong defensive player.

The only thing I don't like about picking up McNabb is his skill set doesn't fit the offense that Carolina plans to run.

Do you pay that much to McNabb to sit on the bench and mentor Cam while Cam plays????? Do you change around the offense to fit McNabb's more WC skill set???

Yea, I hadn't thought of that, that's a good point. If free agency DOES open up without the CBA there is a chance we could sign our rookies without the CBA too...but why would we want to? Why not just wait for the CBA? At the very least they could try to meet him halfway between the likely cap figure and the uncapped figure (if the new cap would put his salary at 35 mil and uncapped it would be at 85 mil see if he would take 60 mil). It's up in the air, but it's probably not the most likely outcome that we sign him for more than Bradford got last year.

Pandora box will open up on Monday with Free Agency. When that happens rookies will not be on a rookie scale. CBA is all or none cant agree just on a rookie scale.
