Our 4th this year and 1st next year for Cleveland's two 2nd round picks this year (#37 and #59)?

Just a thought I had, not sure if I would be happy with it.

Very interesting 2nd round targets for us would include Kyle Rudolph, Marvin Austin, Steven Paea and Brandon Harris.

No, But cleveland wont give those picks up they have to many needs this year.

It's going to take that or something similar to get into the second round for just one pick, Carolina would have to add a lot more to that package to get both of those second rounders from Cleveland. It would take at least next years 1st and 3rd, this years 3rd and fourth plus a late round pick from either next year or this years draft.. minimum

The price of moving into the second round has gone up because of Dalton and Mallet still being there, plus a few quality first round grade Defensive prospects still being there as well.

As for moving into the second round, its going to cost too much to get it done... Better to stay put in the third round.

Mallett and Dalton will probably be gone before Cleveland's first pick in the 2nd round. I was thinking it would probably cost a little more than that, but maybe with some schmoozing Hurney could convince Holmgren that our 1st next year is likely to be a high one. And our 4th (God I hate this line of thinking) is supposedly the same as a late 3rd anyway....

When we traded with SF to get into the second we gave up our next year's 1st (at the time thought to be a LATE first most likely) and we got a 2nd and a 4th in return. It wouldn't take more than a 1st just to get a second in a weaker draft.

I probably undervalued the pair of Cleveland picks, but you at least equally overvalued them I think. What if it took this year's 3rd and 4th and next year's 1st? That should be able to get it done pretty easily. Remember, we have the HIGHEST possible 3rd and 4th round picks, one of which is only 6 picks after Cleveland's second 2nd round pick.

Yea, I tend to agree. I HATE trading away 1st round picks. This line of thinking arose from the thought that now we won't be in the QB sweepstakes next year, so our NEED for a 1st round pick next year is diminished a little.

I'd be up for trading next year's 2nd if the deal was right, but not the 1st. We could be picking top-5 again and that's too valuable to risk on two 2nd round prospects, especially given Hurney's record in the 2nd round.

We could end up, hopefully not, with number one overall pick again next year. If that is the case, Luck will be sitting right there and I don't want to give him to any other team. I'll let Hurney trade away next year's 2nd and this year's 3rd to move back up in the 2nd round, and draft Kyle Rudolph. Later, we need to draft Ricardo Lockette. So Cam will have all the weapons he needs, and if we have a high 1st round next year, we can draft Alshon Jeffery. So in two years, Cam will be throwing to Kyle Rudolph, Alshon Jeffery, David Gettis, and Ricardo Lockette (who Bill Parcells said could be like Jerry Rice).

Yet again, if we have the 1st overall pick next year, we better draft Andrew Luck, and let Newton and Luck battle for the starting job.

Not really an over evaluation on the picks, just taking into account what its took to move up so far in the draft compared to years before and the talent left in the second round. This isn't a weak draft, it's really deep at some key positions. QB, DT, CB, WR and DE.

Trades so far....

NO traded the 56th and next years first to move up to the 28th spot.

Chicago was giving up a 4th rounder to move up three spots in the first to swap with Baltimore. Cleveland themselves gave up a 3rd rounder to make a move up 6 spots in the first round. Atlanta set the pace early in the draft with the massive haul they gave Cleveland. Jacksonville gave up a 2nd rounder to move up 4 spots in the first...

The two QB's and Bowers will raise the cost of moving up in or into the second round, NE should make a killing off of that pick if they decide to trade it.

I'm just saying expect it to take a lot to get those picks from Cleveland.

1. They have quite a few holes they need to fill

2. They've already traded their 3rd rounder in this draft in the KC trade

3. The players avaliable will drive up the cost of making a deal in the second round starting at the top.

If we have the 1st pick again (which I don't think we will) we'll trade it to a team who wants Luck and get a boat load of picks for it. Probably two 1st rounders, two 2nd rounders, and maybe a 3rd rounder or two. At LEAST what the Broncos got for Cutler.

If by some stroke of Satan's luck we have the 1st overall again next year I would be furious if we drafted Luck. We could DEFINITELY trade that pick to someone a few picks below us for an incredible value, and picking a QB with the #1 overall two years in a row would be the most ludicrous thing I'd ever heard of.

We could clean up in that scenario. Loads of teams will be looking to move up; Harbaugh will be foaming at the mouth to get Luck. We could probably rob them blind in a deal for that pick.

But again, the odds of us having the pick again are so low... hasn't happened in a LONG time now. Seriously doubt we're picking higher than 5th.
