Reactions after the pick

I'm ecstatic. And no, it's not just because of the rum. :cheers2:

After listening to Cam's interview and watching the presser with Marty and Ron, I am more optimistic about the Panthers than I have been in many years.

Who knows, maybe he will disappoint. But for now, I am going to enjoy the moment.

I guess the best word to describe the whole situation would be "Surreal".

It was surreal to see us picking first, to see us take a QB, and to see that QB being Cam Newton.

Just watched the press conference with Hurney and Rivera and after hearing what they had to say about all the work and time they put into everyone, Cam Came out ahead time and time again. That says a lot about the kid, especially considering how we need help in other areas. Just tells me that they think he is a really really special kid that they believe in, so I'm going to try to as well.

Still not buying his jersey until he earns my money though.

They only crappy part is for years I have wanted Smith to have a top level QB and now he is more than likely gone. I guess it was never meant to be but I just feel Newton is just as Driven as Smith to be the best. I wanted to harness that like two lighting bolts in a bottle but its not going to happen.

I knew this was happening for awhile now..if you would have accepted it you wouldn't be so sick right now lol

I'm never one to buy into early predictions. Never have been. Likely never will be. It's over when the ugly offensive lineman sings.

Not what I wanted, but that was the case this time last year too.

Just for perspective...

I spent the past few days going back and forth with doctor's offices while also writing a playbook for a buddy of mine who's coaching a youth flag football team.

Spent time earlier tonight helping him teach his players how to run the routes, watching them drop perfectly thrown passes and holding my tongue.

(though I did tell one kid I was gonna tie his thumbs and index fingers together if he didn't start getting his hands in the 'diamond' shape)

After all that, my buddy and I spent some time talking about things we wanted to tweak and watching a little coverage of late picks on NFL Network.

After all that, it's kind of hard to imagine being emotional about a draft pick.

I love the pick, he has the most upside in in this draft by a long shot and some consider him to have more upside then any player taken in the last 10 years.

He has the size you want in an NFL qb, he has the arm strength that you look for, the intangibles are there.... (forget the Flordia stuff, the guys a leader and has an amazing work ethic above all else). He has amazing speed and agility for his size.. ( great example of this is the LSU run, watch the cut and explosion as he cuts and jets away from PP7).

He has a lot he needs to work on, but he knows it and the team knows it. I'm pretty sure he has the smarts and drive to get it done and be a great QB.

Now lets see what the Panthers do for the other glaring needs such as DT, CB and OG.

also I've started my draft recap thread in the draft forum.

Sounds like you had a blast there..

Last time was this guy JuliusPeppers.jpg

I'm excited. This could end up being a turning point in our franchise history. It might end up blowing up in our faces. But right now I'm proud to be a Panther, I'm excited for Cameron J. Newton to do "work" and put this city on the map.

Who is that? My memory is getting so weak.
