If We Draft Cam, Should He Sit A Year

We are NOT stuck with Clausen.
i guess we could cut our losses with him or trade him away for a can of pringles and a bottle of V8 juice, but compared to moore, yeah we are stuck with him.

makes much more sense to keep clausen around than moore but that only has to do with the contract. beyond that i have no interest in keeping either guy here.

Moore makes more money than Clausen FYI

DEFINITELY at least one year. He ran nothing remotely close to this O in college.

but he won't get the chance to progress, and he'll be set up to fail.

then, the same ones preaching he is a savior and should start day one will cry about how poorly he was used and he should have never been drafted by us if we never planned to used him for what he is good at....which is a playground flag football intramural offense.

so?

what team is he playing for? who is he under contract with? he would make more if we picked him back up...which most likely won't be happening. we already have clausen under contract and that is pretty much wasted money. burn that and waste some more money on moore? lol

things have changed a lot in the past few years, though. league has become friendlier to QBs and teams have figured out how to make it work and are doing so rather well.

the number of QBs in that positive win category is going to be climbing a lot in the near future.

But, if the league was becoming more quarterback friendly, wouldn't you think that everyone would be on board with the Panthers drafting Newton.

The league hasn't been friendly to the 3-10, Matt Stafford; or the 7-18, JaMarcus Russell. I think if anything the NFL is becoming for quarterback wary. The defensive players are only getting better and better, I mean Ndamunkong Suh and Gerald McCoy in 2010 then Von Miller and Patrick Peterson in 2011? Newton needs to be eased into the NFL like Aaron Rodgers (not sitting for that long though) and learn the ropes from a veteran before we hand him the reins of our team. There is no doubt in my mind that Newton needs to be starting by the end of the year, but he does NOT need to be starting on week 1.

I don't see how anybody can say with any certainty how long he should have to sit. Cam Newton has never entered the NFL before. No one knows how long it will take him to be the man, that's what training camp is for.

Galvatron, while I respect the work you did in destroying Starscream at his coronation ceremony...

I gotta say that training camp ain't the place to turn 21-22 year old kid who came from a spread/option offense into a viable opening day quarterback in the NFL.
