If We Draft Cam, Should He Sit A Year

For Cam's sake, I hope he is not thrown to the fire.. it will stunt his growth. I think we should put him in on short yardage and goal line packages.. but other than that, in the first year, I don't want him to start. Let him learn the terminology, and how to read defenses for a year. Let him learn behind a vet.

moore doesn't need to be around. waste of roster space.

clausen shouldn't get the start unless the goal is to give him some trade value or help us get an early pick next year.

starting clausen will do nothing for team growth. i can see very little good that comes out of it.

if you draft newton (or any QB in the first 5-10 picks) you need to start him as early as possible. starting clausen will be just a waste of time.

I disagree, they showed a statistic on ESPN about 30 minutes ago and they showed quarterback records of guys drafted in the top ten over the past ten or so years and only two had a positive win-loss record in Michael Vick and Eli Manning and all of the ten quarterback's started right away.

Newton needs to be eased into the NFL not forced, like I said before if the Panthers don't have a winning record by week 9, then I would expect to see Newton starting in week 9, with the coaches telling him to go out and just play his game because there is no pressure since we already have a losing roster. Kind of like they did with Matt Moore when Jake had his mysterious "injury" that cost him the rest of the season. When that happened, Matt played with no pressure and played extremely well. I think Newton can do the same but he will be able to sustain the winning expectations.

^ Not even sit till a certain week ???
why? what would be the point? goal should be to get him in as early as possible. only thing that should be debated is the max # of weeks he is allowed to sit. the minimum is zero.

For 50 mil he better be on the field.
good answer.

stunt his growth just like it did big ben's, matt ryans, mark sanchez, matt stafford's, joe flacco's, sam bradford....

why? Moore has proven to be a VERY serviceable backup QB in this league and if he wants to stay by all means he should stay. he will probably be starting anyways.
won't be room. we are stuck with clausen for a while and we should probably have someone with a bit more playing experience on the sidelines than moore if we are going to bother with any vet.

time to move on from moore.

things have changed a lot in the past few years, though. league has become friendlier to QBs and teams have figured out how to make it work and are doing so rather well.

the number of QBs in that positive win category is going to be climbing a lot in the near future.

I love how the excuses are already being created for Cam if he starts early. I'm no fan of Clausen wasn't when we drafted him and still not. But he wasn't given time to sit and learn, thus now everyone is screaming Cam. If you're sure Clausen is a failure after his playing his rookie season, then you should be able to judge Cam that way also. After all he is awesome personified.

Then where does that leave Moore?

He couldn't even hold Clausen off...

Moore's play had little to do with Clausen coming in, it just sped the process up. Moore was done here as the quarterback the minute Clausen was drafted. JR knew it, Hurney knew it, Fox knew it, the fans knew it.
