I'd rather have PP or Dareus, but it wouldn't be an awful choice
i'd rather have peterson. not crazy about dareus. i don't see him playing NT in 3-4 packages and thats what i would prefer us have if we are going to select someone at #1 who is a DT. imo, fairley fits that better.

I would be really shocked. Fairley is a 3, Dareus can play anywhere on the DL even in a 3-4. Hes better suited to do what teams want to do... and can play more spots.

Dareus is more diverse....Fairley has more potential to wreck opposing OLs. Which is why Fairley was at the top of just about every mock initially.......

There's just way to many what ifs with Cam to be a #1 pick. If he turns out to be a bust then Carolina as a franchise will be pushed back at least 3-5 years.

A wasted #1 overall pick is a wasted #1 overall pick. It doesn't matter who we select, if they bust, then we've screwed up with the first round selection of the '11 draft.

that Carolina isn't serious about building a new offense. 3 WRs drafted last year.....potential is there. They have nothing at QB. WRs are irrelevent with no one to throw the ball.

Steve Smith is a pro bowler, he was of no value when Clausen was in games. Find a QB, tweek WR after.

Damn Clausen making Smith drop those very catchable balls. I don't know how we could possibly be successful with Clausen on this team, no matter who is the actual QB. He shouldn't even be a ball boy, but as long as he is on the team, we have someone to blame. Whew, that makes it all worth while.

WRs don't win games. they make plays, but they don't win games. how did the bulldogs do with their stud WR?

True true, so you are saying that Cam won all the games for Auburn?

Did you watch the Championship game? Without the dominate play from DT Nick Fairly, no way Auburn would have won this game. Fairly dominated the D line and basically took over that game. I don't even remember Cam doing anything special, it was Auburn's Defense that won the game.

So you have a good point, drafting a DT 1st overall would be a good option as well. If we had a dominate DT, that would win games for us.

I just don't see Cam being a dominate QB in this league, do you?

i suppose i'd be fine with it, but my major problem would be whose going to be throwing him the ball? i don't like anyone who is currently on the roster for the job, i don't like any of the perspective FA QBs out there, i don't really like anyone else in this draft and am definitely not in favor of selecting a QB outside of the first round. trading for a franchise QB would be far more expensive than what we would have to pay newton.

it's not ideal, but he could help if we miraculously got a QB worth a crap.

i'd just rather us look for a vet WR to go along with the youth we already have at WR.

You think Newton is that guy?

I agree with you 100%. It just that Cam is a "maybe" player, and Green and Peterson are a "sure thing". If we took Green or Peterson 1st overall, they would be guaranteed to be star players.

I'd be pretty upset. It would be like giving a bag of delicious Reese's Pieces to someone with a peanut allergy.

WE HAVE NOBODY TO THROW HIM THE BALL!!! What good would Green do that Smith couldn't do last year? He's got great hands, but can't catch a ball that was thrown away because the QB got spooked.

If not Newton, it has to be Dareus or Peterson.

I would not complain at all if we got Newton, Green, Dareus, Miller, or Peterson.

Newton - would give us excitement at the QB position and a guy with a massive amount of talent. Could be a bust, but its def a high risk/high reward type.

Green - with the news of Smith wanting out, Green would give us a great young core at WR. He is a beast at the WR position.

Dareus - We have a HUGE hole at DT and getting this guy would help a ton. This draft is deep with DTs though, but I wouldnt be at all upset if this is our guy.

Miller - pairing him with Beason and Davis at LB gives us probably one of the best LB core in the game. I would actually LOVE this pick.

Peterson - Would immediately upgrade our KR and PR and CB position. I believe he is the best player in this draft.

I just feel with our club, ppl say we have a huge hole at DT and we need to fill it and holes here and there that we could fill and we dont need Newton. I truly feel our biggest hole is at QB, and even if Newton doesnt see the field until season 3 or 4, atleast we have some sort of hope. Just b/c we draft Newton doesnt mean we still cant bring in a veteran to mentor him. Newton is our guy and im truly excited about it.

I'd be happy with Newton, Dareus, Green or Peterson.

The only thing that could possibly get me down about this draft, is if we trade down to the bottom of the first.

But once they realized that speed is negated with quality technique and fairley has poor hands, people realized that jumping off of Fairley's jock was a good idea.

they wouldn't have gone undefeated or won the championship without him. did he win it by himself? nope, but he made it possible much more than any other player on that team. he did a lot more for them than pass and run the ball. he provided leadership and fire and it had a powerful effect on what the other parts of the team did. same is true with any winner QB.
