I can see us passing on Cam just as easily as I can see us taking him

I like Cam, but I can see us passing on him just as easily as I can see us taking him. I have to believe that Hurney is VERY conflicted about taking Cam even as I type this post... Hurney has always drafted conservatively in the first round, with a great deal of success and Cam would be a complete departure from that. I could easily see Hurney getting cold feet and going with a much less risky pick like Peterson or Dareus when the moment of truth arrives.

I'm not saying we should or should not draft Cam, I think he has tremendous upside but it is a big gamble and Hurney doesn't like to gamble with first round picks.

I'll support whomever they pick tonight based on Hurney's excellent track record of drafting in the first round. If they do pick Cam, I think it will be because his potential and our dire need at QB makes him too attractive to pass on.

I think you gotta go with a safer pick and someone you know can help right away. That would Dareus(my personal choice), Peterson or Green. If Cam busts he will get Hurney fired and give Rivera another hill to climb. And don't think that Cam will be brought along so slowly. This is about him being the #1 pick. THe #1 pick plays on Sunday. If the season starts to go bad he will play, ready or not.

I cannot see a guy like Rivera telling Hurney to draft Newton. If we draft Newton, this could make or break Hurney... I'd go with a more safe choice, go with Peterson or Dareus.

I think Hurney has been told to fix the offense and without the help of free agency will be compelled to take Newton with the first pick. There are good options for DT later in the draft but not many Qbs past the first round if 5 or 6 are taken as some project.

It is a risky pick but if Chud and Shulas feel they can work with him then Hurney is going with what is best for the team.

With that said I would be fine with Gabbert, or Dareus as well. After all whoever we pick is going to be a good player. I just think Newton is at least a 50/50 player to succeed which is obviously much higher than some think.

I also think the junior versus senior issue is overblown. Most college players are protected, have to learn one system all their career and don't really mature that fast. Newton has had to handle a lot more adversity (some self-inflicted) than most guys who are seniors. He may still be young but in terms of being worldly he has had to grow up much faster than a guy like Clausen did.

Yup, especially because the final call belongs to Hurney.

Hurney does not have the guts not to take a QB with the first pick.

Jake Long is haunting Miami... no quarterback. Everyone that passed on MattyIce is telling him not to make the same mistake. He just got a bad draw with the #1 pick this year.

If Cam doesn't work out Hurney is gone but I think Hurney is willing to gamble.

Hurney asked Chud and Shula if they could develop him, if we pick him, the answer must have been yes. Hurney has to rely on his staff to make him look good. Last year you can see what happens when they don't.

My biggest concern is that Newton gets thrown to the wolves and it ruins him. He's already got a well-trained tendency to pull the ball down and scramble when things go wrong, don't need to reinforce that by putting him out there before he's ready.

I like the way Tampa handled Josh Freeman, suspect we have a similar approach in mind. Hurney and Rivera have spent allot of time talking about how they think rookie QB's get thrust into action too quickly these days... they may have been trying to set expectations among the fanbase for Cam.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it... mull it over for a while and get back to me...

If we do take Newton, how much gum chewing and hand clapping will be going on in the Denver War Room?

Who gives a sheet what's going on in Denver as we can see all the gum chewing and hand slapping doesn't mean a hill of beans...

i can see us passing on him, but not as easily as i can see him getting picked by the panthers.

anything can happen with hurney. it's more a 90% chance that we take him for me. i'm expecting anything to happen, though.

one thing i really don't see us doing is trading out of the #1 spot....not that it is a goal of the team.
