Cam Newton knows what he wants to hear when the 2011 NFL Draft begins Thursday night in New York. His name.

"I want to go number one," the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback told Deion Sanders in an interview that will be shown as part of NFL Network predraft coverage Thursday. "I mean, I ain't gonna sit up here and lie to you."

People who've seen my posts over the past 7 years know I put a premium on athletes who play with a "chip on their shoulder". Barry Bonds, Steve Smith, Vince Young, Tom Brady, LeBron James, etc. I feel that Cam has that quality and it will make him an exciting player for us.

Looking forward to watching this segment tonight.

Keep saying over and over like Kobe his confidence/will to win is portrayed as being cocky/arrogant I see no problem with it. It's something I want a leader to have rather than just wanting to settle for average and not believing in himself.

To me that shows he isn't the guy. The true greats are motivated without any extra help. This kid needs to prove people wrong to get motivated? Pass on him

LOL, Cam Newton could cure cancer and you'd find a way to knock him for it.

Highlandfire: "Well, why didn't he cure it sooner?"

JaMarcus Russell said the same type of things.

Saying you want to be great and actually going out and doing what it takes are two things.

This is not a debate about whether Cam will or will not be great.....just that a player saying these things in beyond meaningless.

There was this guy named Michael Jordan. He was an o.k. basketball player. He used negative things people said to motivate him. When they stopped saying negative things he made them up.

yeah, who would want a Tom Brady or Steve Smith motivating themselves b/c of their experiences of people not believing in them. good point.

Russell was never great prior to the pros. The proof is in the pudding. Cam has been great.
