Build a Cam Newton friendly offense

i would understand that if one was new to the team, but they were not. you can move up and down the field all you want, but if you cant get into that box what good are you?

No good if you don't get points out of it like you say. I just wanted to mention a reason why he may have struggled in that first game.

just like no team running the spread offense will ever win a ring or amount to much.

oh wait....

Someone STILL doesn't understand the differences between the offenses

you mean how teams studied for MM after the 09 season to the point were he couldnt complete the 1st game?yeah i know he knocked out of the game, but damn he looked terrible before he did.

Yes, I'm sure it had to do with the fact that teams studied for him and not any of the other shitty things that were happening with our team

FYI seems to be the pro-Newton crowd whining and complaining of Clausen after one one rookie year. All of these hyped up bandwagon morons will be first to abandon ship when Newton fugs up, and believe it or not the ones who are skeptical right now will probably support giving him more time. Funny Newton isn't even deemed viable to start but throw Clausen to the fire in disastrous conditions resulting with less then disable results and he is considered no longer even a viability.

Granted I'm a n00b, but allow me to say this...

I wasn't ready to dump Clausen after 2010 entirely. When discussing this topic with my friends offline (or elsewhere on the web), I've always been the first to say that I don't think the guy got a fair shake and would be willing to give him another shot with a healthy line and slightly more mature or new personnel attained at WR. Toss in a coaching staff that actually give a rip, and who knows what might happen.

If I'm asked to give an opinion on Clausen's viability as a real threat (especially compared to other NFCS QB's), I'd say it's unlikely. But, again, I'm willing to give the kid another shot given the circumstances.

That said, I do also lean towards the Newton camp simply because he is such an outstanding athlete, and with the right coaching and mentoring, I can't help but think he has a real chance of being that spark the Panthers need so, so badly right now.

The point is this. I've never abandoned Clausen entirely and I sure as hell won't do so willy-nilly should Newton get thrown in there and chewed up in the machine in a similar fashion.

attacking down field is what he does best... and fuzz why cant he run any style of offense? just asking.

I know you asked this of Fuzz but for me the main reason I have not joined in on the Cam Newton Band Wagon is because I don't think he is a great fit for Chud's offense. He could still be a good fit and I have no doubt that Chud is going to tweek his system a little for Newton which every good coach does for every player.

So why is it that I don't think he is a great fit? One of the observations of Newton by several media scout (and I will admit we don't know what actual pro scouts feel) is that Newton is at his best, highest comp. % and completed passes, when he is throwing to a reciever who is in a window.

Now, a lot of people may think window goes along with zone defense but this isn't a reading the defense issue. This is an issue with how the offense is ran. A WCO tries to creat windows to throw to. This is the reason the Tampa 2 is so successful against a WCO. But a Zamp/Coryell system is about pulling the secondary in with the run game and then throwing over the defenders in the passing game. Cam has simply showed he isn't good when asked to throw over a defender. His bread and butter is throwing into that window and IMO much more suited for a WCO than a Coryell system.

Now, that doesn't mean he can't be successful. I just think that this is an issue you have to look at. Then combine this with the fact he doesn't yet know how to run an offense out of a huddle. That is a bigger issue than some realize. Some just say this is a learning curve for Newton, he will eventually get it and I think thats true but in the NFL there is a certain amount of mind games that go on. For Newton he said that the speed of calling the play selection (using 36 on a whiteboard) allowed them to be faster. That mindset is different than Chud's system where you lure your opponent in and then release hug burst of speed when the defense is least expecting it. And this isn't just in the passing game but also in the running game as well. LT use to hit holes at half speed and you would think WTF but then out of no way boom he was off to the races.

Like I said, none of this means he can't be successful and Chud and Hurney are much more qualified to make a final decission and I will respect that decission. But just a fan on the outside looking in Newton just isn't the best fit.
