Build a Cam Newton friendly offense

No doubt he will have a big transition but a team can simplify their packages for a rookie quarterback just like they did for Moore in 2007 and Clausen in 2010. In fact teams commonly are still parts of their offense when the season starts. He won't be going through 4 or 5 progressions just like any rookie. If he gets to 3 or 4 he will be lucky and our line will be working their butts off. Most quarterbacks on most plays don't go through more than 2 or 3 progressions.

Of those 75% coming from center, half of that will be to handoff to the back. We will use playaction but not perhaps that much while he gets it down. The are plenty of teams that use the shotgun on passing downs and even run draws or other running plays from it.

As for Mallett, he would be my least preferred quarterback out of the top 7 ranked ones at this point. He has all the character issues Newton does and is a slow gangly quarterback who has no mobility.

I was asked why I thought that Cam can't run the Zampese/Turner O. I was not knocking him, just stating my opinions on him, and the other passers in this years draft.

In that O, which we should run regardless of Cam or not because of the coaches that we have brought in, 5 and 7 step drops are very important, that requires great footwork (not Cams strong suit).

Also required is a ton of snaps from under center, and the play action fake, if you are not doing those two things that O won't be nearly as effictive.

If Cam was put into the same situation as Clausen was I could see the same thing happen to Cam. The same situation meaning, an OL that couldn't pass protect worth a poo nor run block worth a poo too...

But I'm confident that we get our OL back into pristine condition as years before.

That is how you fail. No great QB in the NFL has ever had the system made around him, they all fit into an existing system. If Cam can't run Chuds system as it is written, then he isn't the pick

Wanna put money on that cause I know of quite a few QBs who've had a system put in place for them.

If you're an NFL defensive coordinator, do you play Peyton Manning differently than Tom Brady? You limit their strengths and expose their weaknesses. Cam and Gabbert have different strengths and weaknesses.

true but both guys will be blitz a lot until they can prove they can pick apart a defense. one folds under pressure, while the other guy gets better. so really you are not going to play Gabbert no diffferently than Newton. and considering that both are pretty athletic they both will more inlikely have some sort of spy on them.

There are a few reasons, some of them well documented, others my own opinions, and others that I will say about almost every QB in this class.

Goes for Cam and all rookies, but especially for short term starters from gimick offenses.

1. He will be seeing coverages that he has never seen before.

2. He will be coming from under center about 75% of the time.

3. This O uses the play action a lot, meaning he will be turning his back to the D.

4. He will be throwing to a spot, not a player.

5. The Turner/Zampese O uses many players with wild route trees, has he had to go through 3, 4 or 5 progressions before? I doubt it.

Again, these are both concerns of mine about Cam, and the others, but especially Cam as that is who we will likely draft. Not to mention he has the least amount of time under center as anyone in the draft.

IMO Ryan Mallett has the best chance to succede in this O out of all the QB's in this draft. My oh my how I wish we had that 33rd pick, and could select Dareus with the 1st and get Mallett with the 2nd.

1. what QB is not this.

2. yes a transition but other spread QBs have made quite the adjustment. to take advantage of his skill set, expect a fair amount of gun.

3. ok somthing he is and haved worked on during the whole process with a qb coach.

4. not a problem, thats the whole point of the combine were people made big deals about him missing wr.he was throwing to certain spots not to the wr. yeah he will need to work on some accuracy issues but that can be correct with technique.

5. so in other words he will need to extend some plays if he has to hit reads 3-5 because no OL will protect for that long.Mallett will not be doing that.

I honestly wonder if people will be shocked that whatever offense is friendly to Cam Newton won't win when it counts in the NFL.

Will you guys be shocked? Baffled?

Do you honestly expect different results than in the past?

just like no team running the spread offense will ever win a ring or amount to much.

oh wait....

But haters are going to hate and criticize no matter what so I for one will be ready for months of whining and complaining from the anti- Newton crowd.

FYI seems to be the pro-Newton crowd whining and complaining of Clausen after one one rookie year. All of these hyped up bandwagon morons will be first to abandon ship when Newton fugs up, and believe it or not the ones who are skeptical right now will probably support giving him more time. Funny Newton isn't even deemed viable to start but throw Clausen to the fire in disastrous conditions resulting with less then disable results and he is considered no longer even a viability.

MM and Smitty were not in sync due to Smitty not playing in preseason games and a rookie receiver on the other side. He moved the ball well but made bad red zone decisions for sure.

i would understand that if one was new to the team, but they were not. you can move up and down the field all you want, but if you cant get into that box what good are you?
