Build a Cam Newton friendly offense

we'll see a bit of the spread, but that isn't all that big of a deal since we are going to be seeing many teams using the spread a lot (and a few have already been using it and winning championships/setting records with it). we'll also see him taking the majority of his snaps from the shotgun, which also isn't a big deal since we are seeing a lot of the best QBs take the majority of their snaps from the shotgun anyways. much better for the passing game.

it will be a hybrid spread/coryell (which won't be difficult to pull off) with lots of calls coming from the sidelines/chud and lots of no huddle...keeping the pressure on the defenses that is on the field and won't be able to get off.

lots of running the ball...probably 30-35 times a game, which is what teams starting rookie QBs successfully do anyways and also something that we do pretty well and will do better with cam. we'll have a lot more long shots down the field to keep defenses honest. works with cam's skillset and what the panthers want to do anyway with the coryell. we'll also see a good bit of short dump off passes as well. not much in the mid range though. that is a pretty big part of the coryell (behind running the ball and using the deep pass) but since it isn't one of cam's strengths at this point, this will probably be one of the areas they bring him along slowly.

we should also be seeing a good bit of the pistol offense...or at least the formation used for it with the QB lining up halfway between where he usually is for the shotgun and under center....as it is a great place for both QBs and RBs getting the ball handed to them. cam hasn't run in that formation from what i recall, but it won't be hard at all to pull off. it will be a great help in his transitioning to the pro game. i actually wouldn't be surprised to see us doing that a lot.

the line will be better just because they will be healthier and will have a better blocking scheme. also, they will work harder for newton than they did for any of the scrubs we had last year. like it or not...players play better for some QBs than they do others. one of newton's strengths is his ability to get players fired up and on his wagon.

defense will also be much improved just by having a better and more aggressive system. if they can get off the field quicker and give newton more chances while also keeping the other team off the scoreboard, it will make newton's transition easier.
