Build a Cam Newton friendly offense

With cameron as the QB...we will likely play "Fox-Ball" again. keeping cameron managing the game with short throws while mostly handing the ball off to Stewart.

While I'm sure we would lean heavily on the running game, we would not need to restrict ourselves to short throws. Cam throws a great deep ball. So maybe it would be more like when Henning would put teams to sleep with the running game only to unexpectedly hit them with a bomb.

Keep in mind Highlander that we gave him a copy of part of our playbook and tested him on it when he came for his visit.

Reports say he had a great visit so I am assuming he did well on his test.

Of course that's overlooked by the haters even when he seems to be a lock to be a Panther. The same way they still question his character when it's reported that if we take him it will be strictly a Football decision after we did the background check.

They will take elements of Chuds playbook that Cam would be familiar with and teach him those first and build from there. I sure with a 900 page playbook that there is something there that Cam has seen before.

It will be the same no matter which QB we use. This is going to be new no matter who is under center. So the learning curve will be there wheather it's Cam, JC, Moore, Palmer or Bulger.

We aren't going to dump the playbook just to appease the QB. Some will question wheather Cam can learn the playbook or not. Do you think you are the only one that has had that thought? Don't you think that Hurney, Rivera and Chud have asked that same question? If they take Cam I'm sure they think that he can, not only learn the playbook (in time) but execute it better than anyone else on the roster.

I admit I don't have the answers. But I can tell you this, if they take Cam, I believe that they think he can not only grasp the playbook in a reasonable period of time but will excell.

That isn't Fox-ball.....

Foxball is handing it off, handing it off, and then going playaction downfield. Short throws isn't what Fox ball is about........Jimmy was NOT suppose to be a checkdown king.......he was suppose to sling it downfield like Moore did.

If Cam is drafted, I wonder if he would actually start this next year? Most of the time, its better to let a veteran start, while the new guy sits on the bench and learns. Unfortunately, we don't have much in the way of veteran experience.

I think we get a vet and Cam sits until after the bye week. JMHO

You know. Jimmy Clausen has been awfully quiet on twitter lately. I bet he's the most depressed man in Charlotte right now if Cam really is the pick.

I'm pretty sure he was on suicide watch as he tumbled down the board this time last year.

If Cam can't beat out Clausen or Moore, than we really did get a dud.

Overall the goal of the Coryell offense is to have at least two downfield, fast wide receivers who adjust to the deep pass very well, combined with a sturdy pocket quarterback with a strong arm. The Coryell offense uses three key weapons. The first is a strong inside running game, the second is its ability to strike deep with two or more receivers on any play, and the third is to not only use those two attack in cooperation with each other, but to include a great deal of mid-range passing to a TE, WR, or back.

When I think of that type of QB, I don't think Cam Newton. Do you think he can be a pocket passer?

Also, what other elements are we missing for that type of offense?

I am not totally on board the LaFell/Gettis train yet, but they can possibly make do.

We have the inside running game, if we can stay healthy on the line.

We are trying to get the TE when we got Shockey.

I don't think that Newton can run this O, and he deep passes are surely nothing to get excited about.

any offense can be tweaked to fit the personnel a team has, the coryell system has many variations(gibbs, turner, martz, etc, etc). i think it's a little crazy to assume that newton will be a run first qb based on the offense he ran a auburn since they expected him to run

Because of his ability to run and possibly because of his inexperience at reading nfl defenses, Cam Newton will see different coverages than Blaine Gabbert. Remember, we had to change our entire defensive scheme against ATL to stop Michael Vick. He better understand the types of coverages he'll see and their weaknesses.
