NFL owners don't get it...

Again, the owners locked them out. None of this matters had they just come back with the current CBA that was working for everyone.

Husker, remind me were the players getting 50% of total revenue or something different? If it were just 'football' revenue which I think it was then they need to offer that again and be done with it.

I would ask for 640 million off the top for the teams operating expenses. In return the teams must show the NFLPA at the end of the fiscal year where the money was spent. If they do that I think the NFLPA would go for it. Stadium upkeep and improvement etc.

I would offer 50% of football revenue each fiscal year. If for some reason revenues exceeded the projected totals I give the union 40% of the excess and put 20% into the players retirement fund, 20% to the teams and 20% to the NFL as an entity its self.

Next, I piss off agents and rookies by having a hard cap. I don't see the Veterans having any issue with that. Each first rounder has to sign a 5 year deal with an out after 4 years (making them unrestricted FA's) if they reach certain incentives. I also implement a 1 franchise tag per player system so guys like Vincent in SD can't get tagged more than once.

I also offer all tags be non exclusive so the player can still try to negotiate out a contract and if I lose him by failing to match then I get compensated. By not forcing a player to stay (unless he can't reach a deal/Adequate compensation) where he doesn't want to, I think the NFLPA would agree to that as well.

I think part of the real problem behind the scenes is revenue sharing among owners. they want more money in their own pockets and the assholes behind it are Kraft, Snider and the biggest bastard of all Jerry Jones. I really wish someone would shoot his ass. Anyway, JJ got fined by the league in 09 I believe for saying revenue sharing was going to be dead with the new CBA. That told me tons right there.

Anyway, this can be settled and all parties make tons of money if they just drop the egos and greed.

The owners mistake, well the latest, was agreeing to the CBA in 2007. They were shortsighted due to a good bubble economy, pre-2008 meltdown. This put them on a collision course with bankruptcy which is why they locked out the players.

This is far from over, the Panthers are in the Troubled Asset Divisions at BofA and Wells, because they are losing money because of the Players Union/salaries, etc.

In the end, this was a lower court ruling by a liberal activist Judge. It will be appealed to a higher court where that judges philosophy will dicatate his decision and possibly even the SCOTUS which would rule 5-4 either way. I'd be the owners way, with Kennedy being wildcard.

Yes, stand in their corner so this can keep on going, and going, and going. F**K them. Im on that side that gets us football now, asap. and gets us in camp, and lets us sign Free Agents. fug this bickering bullpoo.

And that right there my friend is why the league will eventually fold. No one has the guts to just boycott the season, one friggin season, and show both parties WE are what matters. If 95% of luxury suite owners and ticket holders and fans in general just boycotted the entire season you can bet your ass a deal would be done asap.

No fans = no money at all for either party.

But 95% of the fans won't do it so...

If the owners were the people fans pay to see I'd be inclined to agree, but they're not.

Without the players there's no league either.

disagree with the premise

I suppose an actor can shut the movie studio down if he does not like what they offer him to make a movie?

True fans better pray the appellate courts rule in the owners favor, but I think nelson crafted her decision in such a way they won't be able to

It is both my friend. In this case the law was on her view of things side. That is what happens when you have a monopoly. the Feds make it really hard to operate as one.

Many argue the NFL isn't a monopoly, that its simply competiting in the wider Entertainment dollar market(sports, hollywood, etc where the disposable dollar is forked over for Entertainment purposes).

...and that an activist, control/dictator Federal Govt. just declared it so to have the power of Coercion over the NFL and its Franchise owners.

i.e. NFL vs. NBA vs. MLB vs. Hollywood vs. Music vs. Broadway are all 1 Entertainment Industry competiting against each other for our dollars like Coke and Pepsi do in the Soft Drink Industry.

If it is a fact that the players have legal leverage enough to force their employers to let them work in a business they ave nothing invested in we are living in a sad world.

In the end the owners hold the cards and the players know it. We may be on the verge of a very weird time in the NFL and quite possibly nearing the shear cliff its about to fall off of for good

sad world indeed

Maybe because they're not supposed to exist?

Oh I agree, but being honest where can an NFL player go play elsewhere and make the money he would in the NFL? No where.

I feel the NFL needs to split. Two 16 team leagues each with TV contracts and their own championship. No more monopoly then.

Unfortunately the NFL has argued it isn't but the law has found it is. Didn't the supreme court rule this in marketing issues?

I mean I guess the NFL could file a case and try it all the way up the chain to get it decided once and for all it is not a monopoly but I can't see it happening or being successful.
