Why Hurney will trade down.

/sigh

The same old "don't draft anything at #1 because you don't want to pay them QB money" rhetoric. Again, a DT at #1 will NOT make $50 mil guaranteed (most likely). All #1 draft pick contracts are not created equal (+mark up each year). When a QB is taken #1 overall, he gets a small increase over the QB taken #1 overall the year before (if there was one taken #1). See Bradford's increase over Stafford.

When Jake Long was taken #1, he got $57mil, $30mil guaranteed. Matt Ryan at #3 got $72mil, $35mil guaranteed. See how that works? QBs get more than non-QBs even if the non-QB was taken #1. And Long is a LT, that's not a low paying position. Offensive linemen (including Gs and Cs) are the second highest franchise tag number. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchise_tag#Franchise-tagged_players_2).

If we draft a DT at #1, he will probably make right about whatever the top 2 or 3 DTs in the league are making. Not what Peyton Manning is going to be making, or what Sam Bradford is making. DTs are paid like DTs, QBs are paid like QBs, WRs are paid like WRs, CBs are paid like CBs. Top picks are just automatically assumed to be tops at their position in the NFL too, getting contracts like it. That is why the rookie cap is so important. Make them earn it first.

Do you see the guaranteed money you listed? That is the key and it was 50 mill for bradford last year so its going to still be no less than 45 this year and no DT is worth that

Just stop. Yes we know this is about the 50th thread you have created about us must trading down. They're old, they're boring and they're ignorant.

Hypothetical trade here, but being most teams feel we will be top 5 pick again next year, what if the 49er's would trade us their 2011 second and 2012 first for our 2012 1st? I don't think that would be a real bad deal. But then again, as weak as the NFC west is, they will prolly go to the playoffs

That means that we are a 2-14 team that wouldn't pick this year until #65?? Pass. :)

Uh, no it means a 2-14 team wouldn't pick until #45, the 49ers 2nd round pick. I say no thank you. Maybe #1 for the 49ers 1st this year and next.

edit: Looks like Teeray and I both completely misread that. It wasn't for our #1 this year, it's for our first round pick next year.

I was merely looking at the fact the Hurney will prolly want to make up that second for AE and Harbaugh will probably do anything to get his FO the best shot at Luck. We would get our 2011 2nd back and just swap picks with them next year. Which would be fine if they didn't do well this coming season......oh well, just a thought

I wouldnt mind trading down but maybe we should stay at number 1. We need and impact player on this Team weather its a QB, DT or a WR. We need somebody thats going to help us win games. The only way i trade down is if we get to stay in the top 8 at least the top 10 worst case scenario. I would take it though. So if we stay at number 1 and Newton is the pick im going to be happy with it the same goes for Dareus or Green.
