Rick Gosselin's Big Board

Because Beason not going to tank. Ron R is not going to tank. It's a bigger risk thinking that you will be in position to get Luck next year.

How many times has the same team had back to Back #1 overall pick?

Detroit's gotten pretty close twice in the past decade. 2002, #3 pick and 2003, #2 pick. 2009, #1 pick and 2010, #2 pick

It does us no good if we don't take Cam and then end up with the second pick in the draft. Whomever ends up with the top pick WILL take Luck, so we would have just wasted a year not getting the player we wanted.

Next years draft will also have Matt Barkley and Landry Jones in it. Both of those guys could possibly shake up the QB order or be a franchise QB of better value than any one in this draft.

Or they could both return for their senior seasons and the QB class will be weaker than it is now.

I was going to say the same thing. I honestly am not too familiar with this Gosselin guy, but if he truly is one of the more respected evaluators of talent, #6 on the big board for a QB is pretty good. Plenty good for #1 overall. I get the point that there's not many superstars to choose from, pretty much just Green, Miller, Peterson, Dareus, but if Newton really is the 6th best prospect out of this class that's worth #1 overall. And looking at his list, I can't find much to argue with. He even has Gabbert right around where I'd have him.

He doesn't evaluate the talent himself, he polls scouts and GM's to get a consensus on how they rate the talent in the draft class. His board means that overall NFL scouts and GM's consider Cam the 6th best talent in this class.

I have a gut feeling if the Panthers didn't take a QB in this draft AND had the #1 overall again Luck, Jones and Barkely would all return for their seniors years. Not because they'd be adverse to playing in Carolina, but because that's our luck (pun not intended). We'd be stuck in a situation as bad as this year having to choose from Kirk Cousins and whatever other second tier QBs come out next year. At least this year we have a QB with a high ceiling who is a risk rather than being in one of those years with no QBs with any real potential.

Oh, cool thanks for the clarification.

No problem, and I think he hits the nail on the head with this comment:

If the Panthers are to address the need at quarterback with either Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert in this draft, they will have to skip over more talented players at other positions. But if you don’t have a quarterback in the NFL, you don’t have a chance.

Love some of the talent he has ranked right around our our 3rd & 4th round picks. Brandon Harris, Bruce Carter, Terrell McClain, Leonard Hankerson, Jerrell Powe.

Totally agree. Also like John Baldwin, Johnny Patrick, and Brandon Burton.

Landry Jones would be ranked no higher than 4th IMO in this QB class right now. He still has a year to change his mechanics but his delivery is longer than Christmas.

I have heard a couple people say this so I have watched several of his games now. He is accurate but doesn't have good RPMs and has a slow release. He is very accurate though.

Right now he reminds me of Danny Wuerffel.

Barkley is another guy I am not sold on. But if he improves from his sophomore year to his junior year as well as he did from his freshman year to his sophomore year than you might have a good case for him.

Outside of Luck I wouldn't count on there being a QB better than Cam or Gabbert next year. IMO.
