I don't blame Steve Smith...

I don't blame Steve Smith for wanting to leave us. He started making a transistion to becoming an elite player some time ago. No doubt, he is volatile, but thats what I want in a WR. He's stated that he wants to have a Hall Of Fame career. It will be hard for him to do that here with us. We've already injuried those stats the past 3 years with our QB play. So again, I don't blame him, man do I want him to stay. Smith is my favorite player. I hope he retires a Panther. I hope upper management can give him a QB that will get him the ball and our OC can create a gameplan that will draw away the double team by using Lafell, Gettis and Edwards (although I'd rather see Goodson in than Edwards right now.

Don't blame him for leaving, and don't blame me for wanting him gone.

Steve Smith is a selfish player who cares about his throws and TDs and not the team. Would he agree with that? No. Would his actions? Yes.

He was an infection last year. Constant nuissance. Started the season by skipping camp thanks to flag football - resulting in ZERO chemistry with brand new receivers and QBs.

He is the opposite of who you want on a young team.

What do you guys think he would do this season when Cam Newton starts running around instead of threading accurate passes to him in double coverage? Smith has no tolerance for rookies trying to learn the game. He wants his stats and not much else.

Bye bye.

I guarantee you if we were winning games last year smith would not have been as "volatile". All I know is if I was in his shoes, I would have acted the same way. Doesn't mean I want him gone. If smith wasn't here last year they could have put 11 men in he box and just let our receivers run free because clausen couldn't find them. I imagine we would have won 0 games.

If he hadn't been on a Fox team and wed to Jake Delhomme and had been on a team with an Elite QB and non short bus Offensive system he'd already be a lock for the Hall of Fame.

IMO, Jake Delhomme owe's Smith alot of money. Had smith not made so many miracle catches to win games and bail out Delhomme, there is no way Delhomme would've started in this league for long.

I take it that you're one of the few that actually throws temper tantrums in public places in order to get what you want?

Jpjr... You've got to be kiddin me. He's selfish b/c he got hurt playing flag football in the offseason and got hurt, LOL. I admit that I wished he hadn't played flag football balls out like he does on the NFL field, but what do you expect from SS. That's the type of player he is. He isgonnagive you 100% every play. And show me a player of his caliber that don't care about his numbers. His numbers is how he's rated as a WR, that's his job. What ever your job is, i'm sure you care enough to speak up when something is affecting your performance and is out of your control. Smitty can't catch the ball when it not throw correctly. He had a right to be upset and let Clausen no it. I don't want to see a player that is considered to be elite, walk away from play after play and not respond with correction. Any quality receiver would speak up and so did our best receiver.

I'd hardly call his actions temper tantrums. I see it as frustration with wanting to win, knowing that you have gotten a taste of the big game before but seeing that the FO has screwed you over. Clausen was just the unfortunate victim, even though he deserved to be barked at. If he can't stand up to Steve and tell him how it is, I don't see him being able to command a huddle or leading a team. People are always going to criticize you.. it's such a competitive and emotional sport so players get fired up and often say stuff in the wrong manner.

yeah, Smitty is like most competitive people: pissed off when they are losing.

I will NEVER look at that as a negative thing unless you are ruining each snap in the game, which he never has. He might be pissed off during a game, but that has NOTHING to do with WHY we are losing.

If I'm losing, you bet your ass I'm pissed and not walking around clapping and chewing gum. FUCK THAT.

best of wishes to a guy who was one of the greatest receivers to play the game and should have been a hall of fame lock.

I do.... You sign a contract you are saying you want to stay. Not you will stay as long as your are getting all the footballs. Think about Andre Johnson and the crappy situation he has been in or think about Ward when he had Cordell Stewart throwing to him. Didn't see him bolt. Smith is just a big ass cry baby that no one was will to admit if the rumors are true.

The Clausen reference might have made sense a year ago. Smitty wanting to leave is a referendum on young players in general because in all likelyhood it will be Cam Newton running the offense next season. He doens't have the patience or apptitude to teach if it means not getting his stats.

"Speaking up" is not the same as teaching. As a leader of the team you need to develop your young guys not yell at them or complain about your lack of looks on the field.

Especially when you do absolutely nothing to develop chemistry with any of them.

Bye bye.
