Does Smith leave with class or burn bridges?

I wish we were able to have OTAs. If Smith was able to go out there with the guys and the new staff and see what kind of stuff their implementing this season and see that its not the same ol unoriginal Davidson/Fox crap and that he actually has a half decent QB I think he'd want to stay.

The worst thing in the world would be for Smitty to talk bad about the Panthers. We drafted him when nobody else would, gave him a shot at WR when no one thought he would be anything other than a return man. Stood by him assault after assault, injury after injury, comment after comment. If he wants to leave that's his decision and he has the right to do so (even though he's under contract) but don't disrespect us. If Smith were to retire as a Panther he would be given the biggest ceremony and press conference in our teams history. I don't care if we lost 44-0 to Buffalo if it was his last game at BoA Smitty would get a 10 minute standing ovation as he walked off the field...

probably b/c he makes a habit of cussing out players and coaches.....and it has been reported his teammates have always had "issues" with him over the year b/c of the manner in which he acts. Like when they sat him down after he sucker punched Lucas and Smitty acted surprised when everyone sat him down and voiced their issues w/ him.

Smitty will go out on good terms if he gets what he wants, when he wants it. If not, I expect him to start making noise.

is that true? I read a lot of poo and missed that one. From what I remember, he listened to everyone and realized he had to heal those issues.

players get pissed off when their coaches are incompetent. lol For instance, when Smitty yelled at Davidson for setting up a play that left him vulnerable to injury.

so the only thing I can agree with you on without further proof is that he punched 2 guys.. and he cusses when coaches are stupid. something I was cussing almost every play last year.

now if that's a big deal to someone, I will respect that.. but I don't find that to be a reason to expect Smitty to be unprofessional when he leaves a team he said he wanted to retire with..

Can he renegotiate his contract after being traded? That would help us in getting more value for him.

You can always renegotiate a contract but rarely has a player been willing to renegotiate to take less money. Fitzgerald is the only player that I have ever heard of doing this. Smitty will still want to get his $7 plus million.

I hope Smitty keeps in mind that he is beloved in Charlotte and will go down as one of the best Panthers of all time if he retires a Panther. If he goes elsewhere, he will need to produce quickly or he will be quickly forgotten. Ask Randy Moss and TO...

When he said he wanted to retire as a Panther, we weren't 2-14. Right?

Of course not - it was when we were renegotiating his contract so he could be on of the highest paid receivers in the NFL. They seem to always forget that part.

I think its the fact that he's not cussing at coaches. He's cussing at HIS BOSSES. If you punch ONE of your coworkers you'll be cleaning out your office immediately. Same thing if you get upset with your boss and get in his face cursing you're out of there. I know the NFL is a completely different world, but other players on other teams have done a lot less and gotten punished a lot more than Smith. No matter what Smith has done you still have ownership and the fan base standing by him.

I personally wish Smitty all the best.

He deserves a team that the owner didn't take out back and shoot or a GM that has overseen only 3 winning seasons in the last 9 years.

He is an elite WR and deserves a chance to play for a team with a hope in hell of making the playoffs. We won't be in contention for a playoff spot next year and most likely for several years because our problem lies higher up than the coach.

Just like JPep, Foxxy, and the Dom; I wish them all the best and look forward to watching them on my SundayTix when they don't play my beloved Panthers.

TBH, not many teams will put up with Smith like we do. If he starts bitching about things like he does in carolina he will be told to STFU on good teams. They have no history with him and they dont care. IMO he will end up just like TO or Moss if he chooses to leave. He will never be happy because it will never be the same as it was with Jake. They just had a bond that not many players have.
