Smith wants out, prefers Chargers or Ravens

Saw this coming. It was fun but since that dream season that ended in a nightmare game for Jake it has been going downhill quick. If you really love someone let them go.

But seriously Smith can get us a 3rd and a 5th. This also opens up the possibility of AJ Green and next year Andrew Luck.

Wouldnt count on Luck but Green is a real possibility now.

I believe the report and think Smith is probably more than likely gone but at the same time Smith is still valuable to this team and the rebuilding plans. So the Panthers have to get something in return that can honestly help in the rebuilding process. That might mean another vet player at WR or another position or a draft pick that then allows them to pick a position in the draft they thought they had to go FA with ect. You get my point.

But if that is not there then the Panthers have to keep him. And while many here have said "you don't want Smith in a locker room that he doesn't want to be in", I would also say I wouldn't want to be the defensive coordinator on any of the other 31 teams in the league that Smith has now felt like he has been disrespected by. I don't think Smith is wanting to leave in the same manner Peppers left. He loves JR and Charolette but doesn't want to be on a team rebuilding. So if he feels disrepected by the rest of the NFL, he very well could return to BOA with an open heart and finish out his career here and continue to give DC's nightmares.

The second a team starts seeing second round picks as expendable is when they end up in a bad position... Gotta get value for any draft picks you trade!

You consider AE to be 'value'?

Or do you concur that we are in a bad position this year?

I've always been a fan of what Steve does between the white lines, but based on what I've seen and heard about him, I've never been a fan of the person.

His treatment of fans at most practices is at best very uncomfortable. It's fine if you don't want to sign autographs or take pictures with folks, but you don't have to be an ass about it. The one time I got a picture with Smitty at practice he refused to take his helmet off and upon further review he had a snear on his face. At that moment I resolved never to ask Smith for anything again. I doubt he really cares, but I made a point of ignoring him when he walks by at practice and the funny part is at one point he sought eye contact with me and said "hi". The stories of Smitty's treatment of fans out at practice are legendary. I realize some folks get very annoying and aggressive but in part Smith has created that by playing hard to get... and I don't think he sees that. At least Peppers would just flat out ignore you and walk on by, but Smith often has some sort of snide remark when he refuses an autograph or a picture.

I'm not judging Steve Smith, and I will say that he seems to have a special place in his heart for kids and is willing to fulfill their requests so I'll give him that. I'm sure part of it is the same "fire" that makes him a great competitor, it's just a shame he can't turn that off when he's dealing with fans who for the most part don't mean any harm and just want a moment of his time. Again, I am totally cool with a guy not wanting to sign or take pictures, but you don't have to be rude about it.

I will always be a fan of Smitty and I wish him the best wherever he goes. I will miss seeing him in Panthers black & blue and it will be our loss, but the one thing I won't miss is him treating fans like they are a pain in the ass.

Only time I saw him at practice, he was nice and took a picture with my girlfriend. His attitude during games is what bothers me. We will never be able to develop a young quarterback with him at receiver.

LOL, is your girlfriend hot?

In all seriousness, Smitty has his moments... I think he's very moody which would jive with what others close to him have said. In my experience it just seems he's more often in a bad mood when dealing with fans then in a good mood.
