You said be realistic right? Logan Mankins, Brandon Mebane, Hasselback, Drayton Florence, and amobie okoye??? Put Madden down and consider that the Panthers generally don't get many free agents each year...let alone the top free agents at several positions. Not to mention we have to resign several of our own free agents depending on rules.

Only Mankins and Mebane are top free agents. Hasselbeck isn't going to be getting into a bidding war with anyone especially looking at his stats the past 2 seasons (not to mention his age). Florence is in his 30's now and just like Hasselbeck wouldn't cost that much to bring in. The Texans are desperately trying to get rid of Okoye. He too can be had at a good price. We only have 8 picks, but have a lot of cap room. Not every hole is going to be filled through the draft. Especially in the kind of special situation we're in.

I get what your saying but Hurney isn't exactly a big spender...the last time they did it was when we got Ken Lucas and Walhe. Since then we have been relatively quiet in free agency outside of resigning our own players. Mebane would be nice but seattle will do everything they can to resign him...and mankins wouldn't come to a team that was as bad as we were last year. And that's if we are even interested. One guy I could see us pursuing would be cromartie...Rivera has history with him and we need a starter there...but again I think the jets try to keep him.

Hasselbeck doesn't fit our system. He doesn't have a strong arm. He's a great west coast guy with short accurate passes. We need someone who can move the ball down field.

He's the best available QB atm. Volek is trash. It'll be a slim chance to get McNabb or Palmer. Any other FA QB is washed up and not just good enough. Hasselbeck is at the point of his career now where he can at least be a good game manager for a little while while someone else develops behind him and learns from him. He knows he isn't a long term solution.
