Sal Paolantonio (from ESPN) had a one on one w/ Hurney

thats what it was from... was he the one who called harbaugh to miami?

He has been right about a lot of things too I think. Especially in the NY area he gets a lot of cred for some reason. I think he was ahead of the game with a bunch of the Darelle Revis stuff during his holdout and he is still riding that wave of credibility.

He is noteworthy enough to make a mental note of but inaccurate enough to disregard all at the same time

But he has some credibility. However little it may be.:o

Yeah, everything sounds good. "Determination to be great" was why Mayock wasn't sold on Newton, and now Hurney says he has that determination PLUS he likes what he does on the field... So, that sounds like we have all we need to know about whether he is our pick or not.

Now, my problem is this... If this is the case, why hasn't Hurney just come out and said "We will be making Cam Newton the #1 overall pick on draft night"? Something doesn't seem right.

I was just thinking the other day how this is the first draft in years that the #1 pick wasn't already decided by the week of the draft. Something is just off about it...

I think it's because we really can't start working out a contract with him, so we might as well drag it out.

Man, I can't remember... In all honesty, I think he reported that Harbaugh was going to SF and was already signing a contract or something but it was way before it was official, like, he hadn't even ruled out Michigan or Miami yet and a SF area reporter shot it down at the time.

I was just reading about him somewhere though and they said although he's known for breaking the Revis holdout stuff, he gotten a lot of stuff wrong too. They said he throws stuff out there and hopes he gets it right, and sometimes he does. It said he's not the first to hear stuff, he's just the first to report it without it being confirmed, so he gets credit for things before nat'l media.

I think it's totally likely we're taking Cam - 95%. With the other 5% being a trade down, I just don't know if this guy would have sources that Schefter or La Canfora wouldn't.

So Hurney is asked very specific questions about one player and answers them all in a way not to put the kid down means we are taking him? If Sal had asked him the same questions about Gabbert I'm willing to bet you'd get pretty much the same answers. Ditto with Green, Peterson, Dareus, etc.
