What would it take for you...

It's interesting to me that the people who don't live there have stronger ties to the team than the people that do.

Most people just said they are fans because they have to be but would would denounce their fandom if the team happened to move locations.

That is the dumbest statement I've ever heard on this board. Can you imagine a Laker fan who has never been to LA claiming to be a bigger Laker fan than you? I think not! Also if the Lakers moved to NY and became the NY Lakers I take it you'll still cheer for them? After the Hornets debacle, moving franchises is a sensitive matter around these parts.

The people in the Carolina's became Panther fans for the very same reason you're a Laker and Dodgers fan. Because they're the home team! You just said you became a Panther fan because of SS, and I sure the fact that SS is from LA didn't hurt matters.

Panther were my favorite team early in life, Broncos had been my favorite up until I started liking the Panthers around the age of 12 ( I had never really been interested in football per-say, the only team I watched play was the Broncos in the 4th quarter). I loved their style of football, the tight bond the team had, the rough and tough under dogs who would beat you into the ground and no one who wasn't a Panthers fan could name who they were. Everything about the Panthers, I loved, my dad got pissed when I told him I wanted a Buerlein jersey, as did the rest of my family.

Panthers became my fav team in Jake's first season and I haven't looked back. The rough and tough underdog who will punch you in the face, aw yeah.

What would it take for me to not be a fan? Eh...I don't think I could NOT be a fan, I will always find a reason to be enthusiastic about the next season, even if we go 0-16 I will think "Well we still can win, we are the under dog".

I will never abandon this team and it's tight fan base and people.

to NOT be a fan of this team anymore?

Are you simply a fan because they are in NC and so are you?

Do you like what they represent? Do you like a certain core of players?

Do you think you are the truest of fans out there and will always be a Panther fan no matter what?

Does the team have to do anything to earn your fandom?

Easy...

I already told you what it takes for me to support a team. If the Dodgers or Lakers moved I would still support them if they still deserved it. Location is what drew me in, now I'm hooked. SS is what drew me in, now I'm hooked. When Steve leaves I won't leave, unless the franchise continues to show no interest in building a consistently competitive team.

Why would you assume I've never been to NC?

I'm sure there are some Laker fans that are more hardcore fans than me, location is irrelevant.

Honestly, I really can never hate the panthers.

I have a pic from when I was 4 years old with a Carolina t shirt on. I am now 22, so that is a long time loving the panthers.

I have a thing about favorite teams, it doesn't matter how horrible they do, they are my favorite team.

Also I don't live in Carolina. I live in the New England and HATE the Patriots (for obvious reasons). I dunno what it was about Carolina when I was young, I just picked them.

I was like 8 or so in '96 when we were in the playoffs against green bay. I couldn't even watch the game I wanted them to win so much. So sad..

And I fugging lost it when they lost the superbowl. I took so much crap from my friends. Ugh..but I still hang in there.

What team doesn't want to win? Winning = money. I don't really get that 'as long as they wanna win' concept.

Of course everyone wants to win. But think of the Bengals for example. Or think of the Cardinals franchise up until maybe 10 years ago.

These teams do not (Bengals) or have not in the past (Cardinals) put forth a serious effort to be a contender.

Should the Panthers fall into that mode with no hope in sight, a lot of fans would bail on them, myself included.

How many Rams fans are there in LA currently that never left the team when they moved to St. Louis?

I'm more interested in knowing how someone with no ties to NC or SC became a Panther fan, since we're a pretty young franchise with not that much history. These are the stories I would like to hear.

Pretty simple really. In elementary school I liked their logo :D. Now, I wasn't really a football fan until high school, so I only followed them lightly. Come the Superbowl year, I watched the play off run and fell in love with them and their style of football (and some of the players too).

So the Panthers became solidified as my number 1 team. The Colts and Lions are the other ones that I cheer for, but the Panthers are the only ones I actively follow and want to win the superbowl every single year.

when the team was first announced, my mother happened to be shopping for a winter coat for me. My boyscout patrol or whatever it was called was named the Panthers. She just figured she'd pick up the coat. At the time, I loved the Dolphins because of my weird childhood love of sea mammals and Dan Marino's play, but when the Panthers drafted Collins I really got into the team because I had a new QB to idolize... but yeah, that didn't last long... This was helped along because my satellite TV carried a San Fran Fox network despite the fact I lived in Connecticut (...yeah). Mills and Greene quickly replaced Collins as my favorite players, and the rest is history.

after the past two seasons I think it's safe to say the majority of Panthers fans still posting will continue to be Panthers fans regardless of what happens.

with that said.. if they let Johnson, Kalil, Beason, or any of our "stars" for that matter walk in free agency, I'll have a very hard time supporting them. I won't switch teams, but I'll probably just take a break from the NFL for a while.
