What would it take for you...

I am from NC and I decided to be a fan of my hometown team.

Once JR sells the team and the new owner moves them to a larger market, thats when I will stop being a fan.

Thats what these idiots like Riddle just don't understand. No one with the means to buy a NFL team does so for the luxury of it. They do so to make money and a lot of it. If profits (not revenue for all of you dumbasses) continue to decrease then the owners will move or sell but buyers aren't just going to keep the team where they are at. They will relocate in order to get profits climbing again.

I honestly don't know. Considering I'm from Michigan, and now in Oklahoma (never lived nor been in either of the Carolina's actually) I don't think them moving would change my fandom for the Panthers.

I'm more interested in knowing how someone with no ties to NC or SC became a Panther fan, since we're a pretty young franchise with not that much history. These are the stories I would like to hear.

There are a lot of us. Steve Smith brought me to the Panthers. I grew up a 49er fan but as I got older I just started following players and not teams. I liked Smith. Watched more and more then they became the only team I cared about in terms of W/L.

There was a thread about this. I will give you the reader's digest version.

I was always a fan of individual players since I was about 7.

1995 came and my wife at the time (Aint's fan) said I should pick a team.

Coin toss - Heads Panthers, tails Jagoffs. I would root for the team for 10 years and re-asess. I didn't want to seem like a bandwaggonner and a new team would settle that.

Now I wouldn't know how to root for another team so here I am regardless of who we pick or where we move to. If the Panthers move to LA, I will express my disgust by purchasing season tickets, that'll show 'em :D

Like that.

What team doesn't want to win? Winning = money. I don't really get that 'as long as they wanna win' concept.

Anyways, at this rate I'll probably stop being a fan of the NFL in general before losing interest in the Panthers. If the league goes to poo and theres no salary cap and all that nonsense I'm done watching football. As long as it stays competitive I'll be a Panthers fan, even if they move... not like I would have any kind of allegiance to any other team to replace them with.

Lot's of franchises are more interested in making money than they are being consistent winners.

Florida Marlins. Win the world series, sell off pieces, be terrible for 5 years, win world series, sell off pieces, repeat.

They constantly strive to have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball. If there was no floor in football, there would be teams like that as well.

You can say you are trying to win or you can SHOW you are trying to win.

It's interesting to me that the people who don't live there have stronger ties to the team than the people that do.

Most people just said they are fans because they have to be but would would denounce their fandom if the team happened to move locations.

It's because most people here are speaking from experience of having had a professional franchise leave the city (Charlotte Hornets), which was a particularly ugly breakup. It would be like your long term girlfriend dumping you and cheating on you with another guy for little to no reason but then wanting to remain "friends" with her.
