How did we get here

Richardson tanked the season last year...he already admitted it.....he wanted to show the NFL that you don't have to pay top dollar for players and can use rookies and still win....he did this with the belief that the Panthers would be competitive and that he could say..."See dis! Ya downt havta signed dem hiii dolla playas ta win!".....it BLEW UP in his face.

I thought we already went over this?

cutting the older vets was just one of the problems. If we would had drafted a quality QB and DT, those 2 would not have been on the cut list. Having a QB with some exp would helped ease the rookie WR's into playing and our passing attacked would not have been so bad.

Cutting and releasing 8 starters from the previous season was a clear message sent by Richardson to the team and the NFL. Richardson thought he could compete with lesser talent and lower costs. The fact is Matt Moore sat behind Delhomme for 3 season and in Dallas for a couple seasons, so we did plan for the future when we signed Moore. He didn't pan out, but he was our plan B. Whoops.

Moore was only with the Cowboys for the preseason and then was waived...but yea I get your point.

No QB (that includes Moore) worth a damn, the youth movement, injuries to key starters, our same conservative philosophy we've always had (it starts with JR. It's not all Fox's philosophy as some would want to believe. It's the both of theirs and exactly why Fox was hired); playing better competition twice a year (hate them all you want but the Saints are a better team and the Falcons aren't that much far behind them), and a history of failure to trust the FA system and pay for "better" players.

And here we are. I'll find it very interesting to see if Rivera can bring in a new philosophy to this team that JR is okay with. I have a feeling that while some things will be different, Rivera too was hired for a reason.

I've been saying this since day one of his hire.....Rivera is going to see very quickly that his leash is very short.....just watching Fox today in Denver tells you everything you need to know....Fox is like a new man allowed to speak his mind and address the media.....he NEVER did that here.

the real problem starts at the top and works its way down....how Hurney is still here after cleaning house last year is amazing to me.

I believe our downward spiral started way back when Kris Jenkins called the team out by saying no one was playing with heart. The Panthers instead of helping the players just sent Kris out of town so that they didn’t have to hear it.

Agree that this was the first sign that Fox had lost the confidence of some of the players. I thought Jenkins was right then, and I still do in hindsight.

I blame Fox keeping Delhomme in during the 09 season despite pick after pick after pick. Had Moore been brought when Jake started F'ing up one of two things would have happened.

Fox was too stubborn in his later years. Many coaches lose their effectiveness over time. He may do fine in Denver for a couple of years, but expect him to settle into his old habit of playing to squeeze out wins.

Hurney just followed JR's orders on the housecleaning. Blame Hurney for some of his bad picks, but not for just doing as he was told.

Pretty simple-

-coaches thought Moore was viable back-up plan for Delhomme

-teams figured out we only run 5 plays

-possession football only works when you can score and stop opponent

-Otah injury

-Rest of O-line forgot how to block

-Double Trouble was fighting off tackles in the backfield

-QB play was abysmal

-a lot of rookies on team that were adjusting to NFL

-they refused to play Moore in 2009 until the season was over and Jake was hurt

- they benched him in week 2 in a winnable game

they sure didn't act like he was viable backup plan
