Heres something the NFL could do

LOL - you don't shut down a $9 billion business. Haven't all of you heard of labor disputes? Happens all the time in all businesses and it is a game of poker to see which side will bluff. The NFL needs the players and the players need the NFL. This will get worked out but the owners will not let the players set the terms - that is a dangerous direction to go. Do you really want this to be like baseball where a couple teams make 75% of the revenue and have the majority of the good players?

All you have to do is look at the trucking industry. They have been doing it for years.

Not necessarily.

oh I'm sure some activist Judge will re-invent definitions to try to claim that 2 separate operating entities, each competing with each other for players, TV Contracts, ticket sales, etc...are some how one huge Monopoly together.

It'd be idiotic, but par for the course for Activist Judges....it would be appealed and go to SCOTUS with major ramifications if they followed suit.

Problem is more liberal judges are going to side with the Union. And give us a baseball version of the NFL; the players lawsuit wants just that, no draft, no cap.

Except that baseball does have a draft...

Federal judges have lifetime appointment so they really aren't liberal or conservative. One of the benefits of Federal Court is the judges can make decisions and not have to worry about losing their job or not getting re-elected.

not if they closed up business. This plan has actually been discussed and I wouldn't put it past some owners to close up shop vs giving in to the players esp if the courts rule against the owners.

If the courts rule you gotta do this and that, then close the business. the rulings are on the premise the NFL will continue to run as it has as a monopoly with the current 32 teams in place doing business as they have.

They can always split to the AFL/NFL again.

how are you unemployed with such a strong grasp of the law at your disposal?

It's always fascinating to read comments from uninformed people that believe that they alone have a lead pipe lock on the situation.

It gets even better when they drag their left / right diatribe and stick it into a situation that has nothing to do with politics at all.

BTW: No one in any position of influence in this situation has EVER thought of having the league close up shop over some labor ruling. Even if every court in the USA ruled against the NFL, they'd simply reinstate the old CBA since the players have already agreed to go back to it.

Yes, Virginia there will be a new CBA and a 2011 season.

... and Marty Hurney will screw up yet another draft for the CP Nation..
