Watching the game on my DVR now.

I went over the DVR again...

I still don't like the fact they blew that whistle so damn quickly. It was literally a second after initial contact!

agree 100% that it was a quick whistle but one of the reasons they don't make those plays reviewable, what if the runner heard the whistle and started loosening his grip on the ball to get away from contact? Instant replay is here to stay but the whistle still has to be king.

Put it this way, if the roles were reversed and they allowed the strip of a Panther runner after a quick whistle what would the reaction on the board be?

True story. I was unhappy at that call but was so :mad5: after the next play (more because it should had never happened in the first place), I tried punching the piece of wall that sticks out between the doorway and the closet, missed slightly left and scraped up the side of my arm pretty bad.

At that point, it was personal! I spilt some blood for this game but it was worth it.

I personally like to punch the floor. Its a good target and your not gonna break it. I've gone threw a few doors and walls while a game was going. :banghead:

...but one must be careful with the whistle, just ask Ed Hochuli. I've seen instances in which a back is pushed back five yards before they blow the whistle and instances in which the QB is ruled as sacked even though they still have a chance to do a Favre-ish throw and get it to a back or to the line of scrimmage.

We'd be furious but considering the current rule book, I have to put it with it. That's why I agree it's not a fumble but disagree about the timing of the whistle.

I don't recall a change but you may be right. I'm pretty certain an official's whistle is not reviewable though, ask any San Diego fan. :D

Yeah you're right, I wasn't clear. The quick whistle itself makes the rest of the play dead. I was trying to make the point that as of 2007 I believe, the refs were instructed to NOT whistle plays like that dead too quickly so that if there was a fumble, it could be reviewed if the coach felt the ref got the call wrong. I can't remember the exact way Pereira explained which plays it affects though. There are certain plays they do blow dead quicker due to safety reasons.
