Cam Newton vs Steve Smith

First off, Cam doesn't have a list of "crap."

If you are coming into the NFL you will be picked apart piece by piece, every aspect of your life. Newton has passed the test, because there is no concrete truths to any of the allegations. If there was any truth, it would be found. Newton made some mistakes, like everyone in the history of human kind. But he passed the test IMO.

Smitty is an energetic player. I am sure that sometimes his emotions get the better of him. That is all that Smith has on him as far as character issues.

As far as Newton vs Smith, I am not sure that that is trying to deduce. Both do not have extreme character issues, both are charismatic and emotional for the game.

If Smith were a member of any other team, he'd regularly be ripped on this forum as a diva, bad boy, jackass, whatever.

What truth?? I thought you were done....Its funny because you put the mug shot up there as proof but leave out the fact he never spent a day in jail for it. He bought stolen property. He didn't attack someone, He wasn't drving drunk, he did have a fire arm in a place he shouldnt have had a gun and the list goes on. All you folk can talk about is minor stuff. He cheated on a test and bought a stolen computer..... so what? If that the reason you dont want him then we need to get rid of probably 25 more people to have the team of good ole boy angels you folk seem to require

When kids get scared, they do stupid things. Probably no reasonable excuse for Newton.

When you think about Smith though, it is truly depressing. This is a guy that we all love, the guy that comes to mind when thinking of the greatest years in franchise history... and because of that, we normally ignore what kind of monster he can be. Bullying a rookie qb was the last straw for me, personally, that made the rainbow glasses come off, when I view Smith.

I don't forgive him, and I certaily don't praise SS. He is a bad teammate, and is very hateful/ungrateful toward the fans of this team.

I don't know what experience you've had with him but I've met him a few times, asked him for a picture, got said picture without any issue. Then I asked him if I sent him the picture could he sign it and he said without a doubt. I mailed him the picture to the stadium and less than a week later he had it framed and autographed for me.

That hateful bastard. He might be misunderstood, but hateful isn't the word.

Yep. There were fights at least two times a week in HS and more often in college. People were fighting for starting jobs and went hard all the time, the older guys/established players didn't like it and got pissy. Coaches loved it. It's an intense game. My first college practice we were in shorts and shells and the RB basically trucked me because I thought we were just going to "contact." About two plays later he caught a pass up the sideline and I came over and lit him up then winked at him and a brawl between offense and defense broke out.

Coach called me into his office and said that earned me a shot at starting as a true freshman.

Fights happen more often than you'd like to believe. Sucker punching people is where the problem lies.

This whole thread is a pitiful attempt by Panthro to compare a player who has been amazing for this franchise to someone who hasn't taken a snap for any franchise. The comparisons are inaccurate on almost every level and it's a disgrace to Panther fans and Steve Smith that you even mention him in the same breath as Cam Newton.

but for what it's worth,

Newton BOUGHT a STOLEN laptop. Significant difference. Though it is believed Newton knew the laptop WAS STOLEN as he threw it out the window when the cops arrived to investigate.

Not the complete story though. The charges included intimidating a witness.

Decide what you want about what it means, but the argument that it was only buying a stolen laptop isn't correct.

Worth remembering that Smith was drafted by a different regime, and not until the third round.

I'm not excusing Smith. Just explaining why people look at him differently.

Smith is one of those personalities that two people can look at and come away with completely different impressions (one love him, the other hate him). I think Newton is that way too, which is why there are such divergent opinions among scouts.
