Panthers FO to hold press conference on Draft live tomorrow at Noon

I think they need to give up trying to trade. nobody wants the number 1 pick now in this year of uncertainty, that's just the way it is. Teams think they can get a great player from 5-10 and are more likely to trade there then us..Should just accept that and start letting us know who we are picking so we can start getting used to it either way..

The Panthers need to go ahead and tip their hand to ease the "shock and awe" of Thursday. I want Thursday to be a very special and peaceful day for Panther fans to congregate and celebrate a new era of Panther football. I look forward to the Draft Party.

Agreed, there are folks in the fanbase who think Cam is the anti-Christ and will react strongly to us drafting him. I've had several occasions where I'm walking around town in Panthers gear and someone will ask me who I think we're going to draft... when I say Cam, I normally get a bad reaction.

This past season, I was out at practice and someone asked me what I thought we should have done about the QB situation heading into the season... I said we should have gotten Vick and they reacted like I suggested we re-sign Rae Carruth the day he's released.

There is no other reason we wouldn't have announced the pick right now except for the fact that we are desperately trying to trade down. Once we announce who we are planning on taking, the list of potential trade partners dwindles from 32 to 4 or 5. If we announced at this press conference we intend to take Cam Newton and ended up lying (for smokescreen purposes), I don't think it would be perceived well by fans or the media.

Sure there is.....the are a lot of unknowns right now and a team could decide to make a crazy late offer if player became eligible to be traded. I don't think Carolina is "desperately trying to trade" a pick that would be extremely difficult to move.

with all the craziness that yesterday's court ruling brought......Carolina has a reason to sit patiently to see if anything might come up w/ a team.

If you subscribe to the smokescreen theory, then announcing that we intend to draft Cam is the icing on the cake of our smokescreen... it could prompt a team that wants Cam to make a move.

After the draft, the Panthers could simply explain that while we did fully intend to draft Cam a team came along and made us an offer we couldn't refuse.

On the other hand, we could announce that we're going to use the # 1 overall pick on Cam Newton to try and soften the blow to the fanbase (I suspect they are expecting some backlash).

That'd be pretty out of character for this franchise.

But anything's possible.

Finally Hurney is admitting that they're not going to tip their hand by announcing who they've decided to draft... it's silly to pretend they haven't made their mind up yet.

I assume his mind is pretty much set up, or at least, he's got it narrowed between 1-3 players.
