Hypothetically, if drafting Cam meant Smitty stays and drafting Dareus means he leaves, I may have to sway towards Cam. If Smitty leaves I will have gone from 10 wearable jerseys at 1 point to just 1. Beason alternate with captain patch is still pretty cool though, I just don't want to have to buy another damn jersey right now.

If you want to always have one to wear do what I did which was get a retro jersey of Mills. You can wear that one no matter what happens to the team.

Hard to believe we would draft a guy number 1 and didn't even bring him in to meet the staff and Richardson. Not everyone was at the workout right?? Nah, he is definitely not the one.

I think it's just silly when people think a #1 overall will sit on the bench... ever... at all. You do realize a #1 overall QB is going to get $50M plus up front, right? And you're willing to sit him?

The perfect presser to get some trades opened up would have been to announce Dareus or Peterson as the Panther's pick... and I think the Panthers may just take Dareus with the #1.

But he did say legs and when is that ever a top characteristic of a QB. However, he could be of the opinion Newton should be the pick or part of the Cam promotion--I still think they want to trade. If they do, they are divided on Cam Newton.

There was another slip. Rivera was talking about varios ways they can meet needs and he said, "the draft, trade, free agency...there are many ways in which we could PICK our (QB). Was that a slip? I might have taken him out of context, but you don't PICK trades and free agents. Maybe nothing.

That comment does not rule out Gabbert, or even Kaepernick. We are all thinking first round, but these guys think all 7.

Then why have a presser at all? Just keep your mouth shut and wait for a phone call. Want to start some trade talk? Announce someone other than a QB as your #1 pick... there are more teams looking at a Dareus or Peterson than there are QBs right now.

I agree. The only thing I would add is that some of the visits have not been reported and lists are at times sketchy. However, the Panthers have been watched carefully. Unless the SS situation changed for the worst, I do not see it either. Even if he is leaving, you still have bigger needs. Our interest in Green is if we trade down.

I wonder if they PLANTED questions for the media to ask? Marty was asked about the trade value chart, what the Panthers would listen to--He replied, "We have a chart, but the bottom line is what would be in the best interest of the team." (something to that effect).

Was that a message to the other teams that we are having a sale? Why else have the presser?

But like you said it could be nothing. I can honestly say that I have no fugging clue who we are going to pick Thursday.

At this point I wouldn't be shocked if it were PP, Dareus, Cam, Green, Gabbert, Miller, or if we trade out. I think it will be Cam if we stay at #1 from reading the tea leaves, but since I want to take Cam it could very easily be a case of me listening for what I want to hear. :confused5:
